Is 1 month too long of a stay in Hua Hin?

Post by CanadianGuy »

Hi,

I've been combing these forums trying to determine if a 1 month stay in Hua Hin is too long. That is, will I be bored out of my mind? I have been to Bangkok and Pattaya many times, but never Hua Hin. I am quite tired of both Bkk and Patts, and welcome a change. I am not much of a monger and prefer a more laid back scene than the nightlife found in the previously noted cities. However, that being said, I still like to get out and enjoy the bar scene to some extent. I would like to find a place that offers some nightlife along with other recreational activities. Think I could stay occupied and entertained for 30 days in HH?

Thanks a bunch for any insight!

I'm guessing from your brief description of yourself that you'll like Hua Hin just fine and if you've got a little cash to spend on your holiday there is a veritable plethora of things to do in the general area.

If you do get bored after a couple of weeks you can always travel further south and check out more of Southern Thailand or the islands.

Yes, unless you’re one of those manic tourists that wants to do something different every day, a month in Hua Hin would be no problem at all.
The first time I visited I didn’t really have any plans and I ended up staying for three weeks, and then it was only work that took me back.

Hi CG from another CG,
A month is just fine. If you do pine for some chaos and pollution BKK is just 2.5 hours away so no worries there.
Going south is easy, cheap and convenient with lots of interesting places in Thailand to see and a cheap overnight train gets you into multi-cultural Malaysia, worth a short trip if you feel a bit restless.
I think you'll like HH, its a Thai town with some falang flavour, its not a falang ghetto where everyone is on the make.

Wow! Thanks so much for your insight and links.

Also, thank you for your kind welcome to the forum. I have found the postings to be very helpful and informative.

I very much appreciate your thoughts on HH. I am now psyched about visiting the city and will plan to stay in HH for a month. I really am tired of the scene in Pattaya and the chaos of Bangkok, and welcome a break in a more relaxed environment, which still offers a variety of activities for the visitor.

I just noticed that my month stay will overlap with when the Jazz festival is held in the city. Cool!

Thanks again!

However your plans may work out, if you're thinking about being here for the Jazz Festival book your accommodation well ahead.

Is one month too long? To be honest 1 year is too short in my opinion.

I had a friend who came over to see me twice, for a month each time and the time just flew by.

In his own words. - 'My god im going home tomorrow and it feels like iv'e only just arrived'

I'm about to have my annual visit to HH, I also go to Pattaya (although I stay in Jomtien) and when I get to HH in a few weeks time, it will be my tenth year running.

HH is a cracking place, loads to do and see but not at 100 MPH as in BKK or Pattaya. Personally, a month will be perfect, as will two weeks or 3 months.

I saw a post about Songkran earlier, and someone posted something about "You know you've been in Thailand too long when:" and there is a lovely line, which sums up HH very nicely.

You wake up in the morning and realize that you have nowhere to go and all day to get there. - what more could you want.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!
