Can Granite be Super Glued?

Post by hhfarang »

A small corner of a granite step broke off. There was no crumbling and the piece fits back perfectly into place with no gaps.

Will super glue work to repair it or is there a better way?

Glass glue should do it .Clean thoroughly first .Pick up a sample from a granite place, hit it with a hammer and experiment . :thumb:

Superglue was first made by loctite,or at least marketed by them .They also have a similar product for glass to glass bonding .I assume because of the smoothness of the surface .Superglue glass glue is the brand name accrding to google .

If you check that the "superglue" contains "cyanoacrylate" I'm pretty sure that it will bond it together

A two part stone (masonry) glue would be better. Don't know brand names there, sorry.

Super glue works better on smooth surfaces, broken granite would have rough surface.
This product may give you some ideas.

Well Split,

That does sound like a good idea and simple but it has been my experience that Thais take more shortcuts and workarounds fixing something than anyone else I've ever seen so they (a granite place) may well recommend something worse than super glue or have no idea what they are talking about at all. After all it was one of those places that did the installation in the first place that apparently didn't have the proper support for the amount of overlap (this is the second time it has happened and the last time I overpaid for a granite place to come and fix the other one).

I don't think you can trust anyone here as an expert just because they are in the business... that's why I thought I would get better answers from you guys on here... and then just fix it myself. :D

Ok Split, fair enough, what I meant was I don't trust the Thai businesses because I've had multiple bad experiences with them not knowing what they are doing so I came to you expats for an opinion. Maybe (as you made the joke about) that was my mistake!

I guess what you are laughing about is that the expats here are no better than the locals at knowing what they are doing.

Funny... :lach: :lach: :lach:

That's exactly what I don't like about this place... at home I could run down to Home Depot and in 10 minutes I would have asked the question, been given the answer, and purchased the product, and solved the problem... but this place is a different story!
