Looking for a good Thai restuarant in downtown Hua Hin

Post by TimSe »

Hi,

Looking for a good Thai restuarant in Hua Hin. Ideally somewhere close to the Hilton, central town area. Not too expensive, but not basic either. Needs to serve wine. Hopefully friendly staff and nice setting. Can anyone make any recommendations please?

Many thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum TimSe. If you're looking for decent Thai food at reasonable prices, you won't beat the restaurants at the temple wall. This is at the opposite end of Soi Binthabaht to the Hilton - about 2 minutes walk.

BamBams always gets a good press on this forum.

Hi Big Boy,

Thanks for your post. If I'm thinking of the right area, is this a stretch of cheap and cheerful, small restuarants in a row on the far side of the road (if walking from the Hilton, up the busy, main girl bar soi and just to your left).

If that's where you mean, these restaurants are great, but I don't think they serve wine. I'm travelling with a lady who likes her wine!

Am I thinking of the right place that you mean?

Try OnnOnn Corner, right on the corner of the path going up through the temple grounds and directly across from LaGrappa.

You could also try the seafood restaurants on stilts that go out to sea. They'll probably be more expensive than the others recommended, but some certainly sell wine (don't know the quality or range). They're all only a 5-10 minute walk from The Hilton.

'Bird Chilli' on the Night Market. You won't get a sea view! But good food at good prices, wines and cocktails, and very good service. Nice loos as well!

For some of the best Thai food in that area at very reasonable prices try the Sirin Hotel restaurant (across the parking lot from McDonalds). I've been eating there ever since my first visit 6 years ago (then they were a garden restaurant on the spot where McDonalds now sits) and I still think they are one of the best in town. They have a small outdoor porch now with 5 or 6 tables and a large indoor dining room with air conditioning and/or fans.

I do believe they have a decent selection of wine as well.

Yes, that's where I was talking about. Not being a wine drinker myself, I can't be 100% sure, but I believe (as does magnum) I've seen wine available there.
