Dune Boutique Hotel

Post by Pagey »

Anyone stayed at the Dune ?

Some friends are considering staying there in December after seeing their website.

I walked up to have a look a couple of weeks ago and took some photos as it did not look much. The beach was empty with no chairs/loungers etc and the land which the balconies overlook was overgrown like a small jungle.

This place is over a hundred quid a night in December I believe and is quoted on one website as one of the top boutique hotels in the world !!

Anyone any comments or can recommend another small boutique (whatever that is.......) hotel ?

I thought the same when I walked by it. It's only about a year old, and looks run down. If your looking for a hotel in this area, try the Putahrasca...very nice

round here for a hundred pounds a night Id be expecting something like a maharajas palace mate.

There are plenty of excellent hotels in and about town. Try Top Marks for a start.... I get good reports off people I rec the place to. Right in the town centre and 5 mins from the beach.

If you want fancy go to Anatasilia (sorry of thats spelt wrong) down in Kao Takiab..... very nice place but not cheap. Great surroundings and a very cool empty beach...... has an in house tuk tuk service for guests. Ive stayed there....good hotel.

CC - Thanks, that's what I thought but didn't want to put them off without a second opinion.

Sandman - Boutique hotel over 100 GBP per night and Top Marks 15 quid a night - How can you compare ?

the point Im trying to get across is just because somewhere is called a "boutique hotel" doesn't mean it is.....and it would have to be sodding amazing to justify a £100 a night rate in Hua Hin.

Ive stayed in these so called places all over, and the only two that actually deserved the name were one in London and one in Glasgow.

I think your friends should shop about and look further.... there are some really nice spa hotels further down the coast, but really here in HH the £100 price is outrageous. The Marriot or Sofitel is a good option at that price range.

Im just a cheapskate I guess...... give me the Top Marks and the £85 saving anyday...a hotel is a place you shower and sleep.

Haven't seen the Dune rooms Pagey but been in the hotel and it's nice and trendy etc but not much too it facilities wise I thought.
Friends stay in Marriott (lovely hotel) once a year and get rooms for about 100 quid in December I think, if it were me I'd play safe and use Marriott or similar. Beach in front of Marriott better imo, also walkable into town and Market Village.
Actually over Christmas and New Year will be more I would guess.

I have not. A boutique is a shop. The poofy name applied to a B & B would put me right off.

I am intrigued to know what constitutes "deserved the name". I know that certain Hotel chains (Hilton) have used the term but that's not what we're discussing here.

I agree with you that a Hotel is normally somewhere to sleep and shower and so long as it's clean, anything else is superfluous. That does not apply to everybody though.

Agreed. I have just looked at the web site and they certainly haven't spent any money there. They are quoting prices from 4,500 Baht which is well under 100 GBP at the moment.

I depends what you want. If location is important the this place really doesn't have it. It's the shit end of town really. All the rest of the up market stuff is from the Hilton south. The general rule seems to be that the further south you get the better it gets until Chivasom (400 GBP per night) where it starts getting cheaper again.

Check for yourself. Different strokes for different folks. I noticed they had only managed one reference, and that was unnamed and looked like it came straight out of a marketing manual.

Why do I suspect more than a passing interest in the success of this establishment on the part of the poster...?

if looking for a botique style hotel try the Evergreen botique hotel ( they have a link on this site). I have stayed there a couple of times since they opened last year and can recommend it highly.
Great staff and the rooms are huge!

arrts, I edited the link and removed your other post as it was a duplicate of the one you've made in this thread - if you're affiliated with this new resort and want to advertise it professionally fill in this form.

Those wanting info or online booking on the other places mentioned here look yonder:

a "boutique" hotel is one where the place is kitted out with a design vision in mind, so the whole place is a sort of living design experience....god that sounds like w**ky ad speak....aaaargh.

The one in London was the HH.....it was all designed and decorated by one of the top fashion designers and was amazing. The reception area/bar was worth the stay on its own....

The one in Glasgow lent heavily on the Rennie Mackintosh Art Nouveau movement influence that had its home in Glasgow and again was beautifully thought out and decorated. I love Mackintosh stuff so was in heaven.

In both cases tho these were anniversary trips so something special was called for.

Normally I go small guesthouse or in the UK a pub inn place.... I hate big chains like the Hilton as I prefer being treated with some degree of humanity which they just dont have.

The poshest place I stayed ever was the maharajahs palace in the middle of the lake where they filmed Octopussy....man that was swish. But that was $120 a night for absolute luxury in an Indian palace..... not some guesthouse in Hua Hin.

Horses for courses....but yeah "boutique" is a sucky term.
