Above the Western prices?
I would say so, especially brand name companies such as Fisher Price, Mattel, real Barbie dolls, original action figures etc. Probably due to import duty taxes, just like when you buy a bloody imported car here. :guns: Pete

The sticker shock will be well worth it if toys sold will be up to the quality of those sold here in the UK. I hate buying the tat that they sell in Thailand for my grand daughters - most of it wouldn't pass UK safety standards.

The question is will enough people be able to afford the prices, or be prepared to pay the prices to make shop a viable proposition?

Well the Lacoste and sports shops are still open so people must be paying the prices.

I was looking at a Real Madrid shirt in there. £45.

They're only about £30 in England plus I can get 2nds (1 stitch out of place) from Pattaya for 300 baht.

Good point BB. The dozen or so times I've let my little one loose in the Pattaya branch, few customers and those that were in there were foreign visitors, or folks like us with Thai families and luk krung kids. I think the majority of items are over the price limit for most Thai's.

They do have many displays set up though that allow hands on play by visiting kids. My little one leaves in a sweat and exhausted after about 30 minutes of trying to play with everything. :D Pete

I'm sure the shop will attract plenty of people - many of the locals will never have seen such quality toys (I remember my son-in-law being gob smacked when he visited the Bristol branch). However, how many will be browsing, and how many will be buying?

I would think it will become a day out for Thai families.

I don't believe Hua Hin has enough in this category to make it viable.

Toys R Us have tested the market a few times as they have had a mini shop in the centre part of Market Village so they must be convinced that they will have enough customers to make a proper shop pay

You're not going to see the size of shop they have in the UK and USA, BB. The one in Pattaya only measures about 12 x 12 meters. Pete

I sincerely hope that the toy shop on the 2nd level at the top of the escalators will survive 'Toys R Us'

I have bought many items for my two boys from this small shop and the service that they provide is excellant.

I bought one of those R/C helicopters for one of my sons. It was faulty. I took it back. They exchanged with a smile.

So refreshing to experience that.

I have visited Toys R Us in BKK ( a couple of branches) and frankly, considering that this is a large chain of stores, the choice is quite limited and the service is 5hite!

Market Village 'back section' third floor is open for business although not fully.
One side is completely baby upto child stuff with the toys'r'us shop in it. Didn't go in but loads of people in there.
The other side is completely mobile phones, with one camera shop. Camera shop looked good but not for the experts needing specialist bits.
I sincerely hope that the toy shop on the 2nd level at the top of the escalators will survive 'Toys R Us'

Agree Terry, but looking at toys'r'us he may as well pack up tonight. Shame.

Baa Baa

There's a great little shop selling football strip for kids quite close to the toy shop mentioned in my previous posting.

Son No 1 (Liverpool fan) got the Gerrard full kit & Son No 2 (Chelsea fan) got the Lampard full kit.

Total cost THB 650 for both sets.

Copies? / seconds? who knows, but the lads were happy.

The best football shop in town for me is here marked on HHAD Map. Link: http://www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-map.htm

He speaks English and has the biggest variety I've seen anywhere, including bags, flags, banners etc.
He seems to have a cheap market quality one's and then very good copies for a few hundred Baht more.
He's got the machine for putting names and numbers on back.
