Guesthouse information ....

After visiting Hua Hin many times over the last few years we've decided to make it our home for the foreseeable future, beginning in late November 07.

Our plans are to rent cheap accomodations while apt/condo/townhouse (?) hunting, but having no idea of availability during what is surely the early phase of high season in Hua Hin we expect to stay possibly even a month in this temporary situation (maybe more, who knows) until we find the permanent place we both can agree on.

Last April we wandered around many areas in Hua Hin ... one partiicularly pleasant neighbourhood semed to be the townhouses on Soi 80. It's by no means the only possibility, but certainly we'll be looking around there with more diligence in November. Last April there were many places for long-term rent there.

Anyway, the real question is right now finding a clean but cheap guesthouse to hole up in during our search. We noticed leading into Soi 80 a number of guesthouses (see map, circled). They are on the terrific Hua Hin website map, but not linked, so no information.

Anyone know anything of interest about these couple of places? Prices, cleanliness etc etc. This will be a temporary home only, so luxury is not an issue ... though aircon is

I'm afraid these two are not in the booking system and don't have websites as far as we know.

Maybe someone else who lives in that area can get you their phone number.

Also that map is a year old to they may have changed names or owners.

Thanks, I hope some folks know about this.
I was there last April and ~ naturally! ~ wasn't thinking that far ahead as to bother taking down their names, or getting a business card.

Certainly there are a lot of guesthouses in Hua Hin (we've stayed in a few) so the accomodation will not, in the end, be a problem. But these 2 places are in a good location ... right in the same soi where we hope to be doing some serious townhouse/condo hunting and/or negotiatin'.

HI There, I was also in HH last year and walked around the same Soi80 and some of the streets adjacent to the Soi ans saw lots of private rentals of houses being offered.

What I would suggest is to perhaps book a week in one of the guest houses/hotels listed on this board and the spend that week finding some suitable accomodation.

Personally I would feel safer to do things that way, than book permanant accomodation sight unseen

Both of the guesthouses mentioned are fairly new and would be fine for what you describe.
The Cha Ba guesthouse near to All in Hua Hin is very good value also, huge rooms for 20 000 baht a month. There is also a new hotel/guesthouse between Soi 88 and soi 94 prices are again under 20 000 month but this one has a pool.

Hi Smiles,

I stayed in the Sawasdee guesthouse for about six weeks last year. It's a really nice place with three different room sizes - they do monthly rates starting at around 15,000 baht per month.

The staff are friendly and the rooms are a good size - the middle sized room is approx 30sqm and costs around 18,000 baht per month. Very clean and highly recommended.

Only minor gripe would be that they don't provide breakfast, but you're that close to the town centre everything's within walking distance anyway.

Another place I'd recommend is Hua Hin Place. It's on Nebkahardt Road and offers nice rooms with balcony and seaview for around 15,000 baht per month - again within easy walking distance of the town centre.

There are so many good value places in town it would probably be a good idea to get yourself booked into somewhere for say a week and explore for yourself until you find what's right for you.

Guys,

Surely at the prices Heebio is quoting, you'd be better staying for one or two nights in the guest house, and then taking up short term rental (one month) of one of the houses in that soi.

It has to work out cheaper, and you'd have a lot more space.

The stay at the guesthouse (whichever that turns out to be) is purely play-by-ear until we find a permanent rental which we both think is perfect for our needs. Such a search may take a week, or a month, (or a day for that matter). I doubt it will take more than a month.
But meanwhile, I want to grab a guesthouse for a reasonable cost: the Sofitel will cut it for a few days of luxury, but after that, it's cold showers

... until our search has ended.

Smiles if u stay in the Sofitel 1st for a few days, there is a place right across from the main entrance called the Hua Hin Suites.

If you stay in the Hua Hin Suites, you can normally walk straight through the Sofitel gates and most times get to use all of the Sofitel facilities, just make sure you get a towl a similar colour to what they use in the hotel and then you will get no problems with the hotel staff.

We done it a few times and had no problems

We stayed at the Hua Hin Suites last April. Nice hotel, but more expensive than I want to put out if it's going to be a month ... possibly more.

Interesting that you suggest such a delicious scam! I remember discussing the exact same ploy with my partner last year: just wander across the road and stroll through the Sofitel grounds ~ nonchalant as hell ~ and lay down the towels by the pool and jump right in. Thais hate to put other folks in a position where they (or they!) could possibly lose face through embarrasment, so chances are no one would say a word.
Never got up the gumption unfortunately. My partner thought it was a tacky idea

Smiles just walk through the gate as is u stay there, do not hesitate otherwise they get a bit suspicious.

If they happen to say anything, just say you are going to the Museum Coffee Shop, there is nothing they can do as the public can use all the bars and eating facilities at any time.

Hi BB,

Well, as I'll be retired in November, money is always an issue . . . not at all a debilitating one, but an issue nonetheless. My retirement income will be quite comfortable, but I'm hardly a rich man so I save where I can save: i.e. in this case on the hotel where we will shack up to use as a temporary base from which to do our search. Anyway, I've always been a bit of a sticky shit where accomodations are concerned . . . so hardly out of character..

I hear what you're saying, but I'd simply prefer to do the hotel thing until finished with negotiating the place we decide on. Your suggestion would probably mean a dual set of negotiations, pluse leaves us with less flexibilty vis-a-vis dates. A hotel I'd rent by the week ... once stuck in a temporary townhouse (for instance) we'd be locked in for ~ at the very least ~ a month.

Personal preference & logistics is all ...
