Looking for company to help getting Thai Drivers License

Post by dvolante9 »

Hello all, I don't have a US drivers license and I need to get a thai drivers license. Does anyone know any companies that can help me get a (car) drivers license? Any help is appreciated thanks.

As far as I'm aware most expats do the research and do it themselves.
If there are companies that do it for you, they probably won't know a lot more than you anyway.
You could go to the Land Transport office in Pranburi and ask them the procedure.
Seriously, if you need to pay someone to do this simple thing for you, I doubt you'll last long in Thailand.

I went to immigration today, canal road Soi 23. Take your passport and proof of address + a passport photograph. Staff are very helpful. Then go to San Paulo hospital and ask for a medical certificate that is required for a driving license. Medical exam is very straightforward .
Then go to Pranburi for the Thai driving license. The office is apparently difficult to find therefore I'm going to take a taxi. So hopefully by this time tomorrow I'll have the license. Not difficult, takes a bit of time but what's the hurry. Costs so far 1000 baht for paperwork to enable car purchase and Thai license plus 750 (approx ), for medical certificates for myself and my wife ) there may be a way to do it quicker or cheaper but I was quite content by the way it's gone so far.

dundrillin do you have a licence from your home country? The reason I ask is because the OP doesn't. As such, it would be a 2 day process, and would involve taking a test. If taking a test, you 'should' provide your own vehicle, which of course  , you can't drive there yourself because you don't have a licence.

I didn't realise that. I have had a UK driving license since 1967. I think the poster is feeling intimidated by it all but I think he probably has enough information now to have a go. To reiterate I found all the staff today very helpful

Yet another reason to take a friendly taxi driver.

Shows how much I know , I thought 2 medicals for 750 was a steal. But it was easy to find, efficient and stress free.

as a American you may find the written test more difficult because it is based on UK driving rules and signs, you should try to study for the written test on line. don't be suprised if you fail the test because you can only miss four questions out of fifty. the graphics are so poor it is impossible to tell what you are being asked.

I am wondering if that is that no license or no experence driving? too different things.

a year ago it was easy to get a license, now it is much harder to pass.

Just to avoid confusion, I think Hua Hin Soi 23, off Petchkasem was probably the way you went Dundrillin. Unless immigration has moved again. :)

Actually you need 45 correct out of 50. If you do not pass you can re-try there and then one more time. Fail twice and you have to come back another day.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.
