Unable to get 90 day Visa
Just went to the Thai Consulate in St Kilda Road Melbourne Australia and was told that they are unable to issue a 90 day visa..
We have been coming to Thailand on a 90 day visa for many years. They suggested that we get a 60 day visa then apply to Hua Hin for a 30 day one when we get there.
We are leaving Australia in May so need to find out for certain if this is really possible. Our air tickets are issued and apartment booked so we need to get Plan B(whatever that may be) into action. It seems they still have the 90 day visa but as tourists that wan to spend 90 days we don't qualify for a visa.
In 3 months we spend quite a few baht but seems that's not what they want.
Could someone please tellme if we can get a 30 day extension when we get to Hua Hin
Thanks Rosievictoria

Re: Unable to get 90 day Visa
It's quite possible that while the Consulate can't issue them, the Embassy can. I'd get in touch with the Embassy and ask them, also ask if you can apply by post.
This is the way
Re: Unable to get 90 day Visa
Others with more knowledge will come on later, but for now, one plan B is to make a border run after 60 days to nearby Burma and get a 30 day stamp. I would suspect that you can get a thirty day at immigration on this side, but Immigration makes that decision.
Good luck!
Good luck!
I wouldn't have to manage my anger if people could learn to mange their stupidity!

Our guru lomuamart will confirm later, but I think you get the 60 day Tourist Visa from your Consulate, and then visit Immigration and pay a further 1900 Baht for a 30 day extension. lomu will clarify the timing of your visit to Immigration - absolutely nothing to worry about though.

Can confirm what BB says. You get 60 days in Australia and when you have some days left you go to Hua Hin Immigration and they will give 30 days extension. Total of 90 days.

Tourist Visa is 60 days with a 30 days extension available at local Immigration/

Re: Unable to get 90 day Visa
So if you enter Thailand on a 30-day visa-upon-arrival, you can only extend at immigration for one week but if you enter on a 60-day visa you can extend at immigration one month??

Re: Unable to get 90 day Visa
Rosie, I seem to recall you posting a couple of years ago along similar lines. I think that you are referring to a non-o visa, which is good for 90 days. I also mentioned at the time that a non-o visa was not intended tourist reasons. We have been coming to Thailand on a 90 day visa for many years.
Just obtain a tourist visa as mentioned above, good for 90 days, BUT you are only given 60 days on entry and need to apply and pay for the extra 30 days before the 60 days expire.

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Re: Unable to get 90 day Visa
As above. The TV will suffice for the 90 days with one extension of 30 days. Don't worry about applying for the extension a little early (you can do so up to 30 days before your 60 day permitted to stay stamp expires) as you won't lose any time. The 30 day extension will start from the end of the 60 days not from when you apply and are granted it.
Re: Unable to get 90 day Visa
Quite so ! I got both extension a couple of time in the last years. And then, something few people know and may be useful, you can get a second 10 days extension after the 30 days on the 60-day visa (1900 bahts again, no need to justify anything) I did that one time, last year.Ginjaninja wrote:So if you enter Thailand on a 30-day visa-upon-arrival, you can only extend at immigration for one week but if you enter on a 60-day visa you can extend at immigration one month??

Re: Unable to get 90 day Visa
when you go to the immigration you need a foto but a pas foto will not do
,it need to be a little bigger but they have a camara there and can provide you with correct foto for a small fee

Re: Unable to get 90 day Visa
As I understand, that is because there is no such thing as 'visa on arrival'. It is 30 day 'visa exempt'. Therefore there is no visa to extend.Ginjaninja wrote:So if you enter Thailand on a 30-day visa-upon-arrival, you can only extend at immigration for one week but if you enter on a 60-day visa you can extend at immigration one month??

Re: Unable to get 90 day Visa
Thank you all so much for your replies to my question.
On Friday they will give me 2X 60 day visas in my passport for $90 AUD.
And as you have suggested about a month after I have been in Thailand go to Hua Hin Immigration and tell them my story and show them I have another 60 day visa..
Never having too many problems before it was a real shock to think I was only getting 1X60 day visa.
Air tickets had been booked and paid for and apartment waiting for me.
Thank you all once again for your kindness

Re: Unable to get 90 day Visa
Rosie,
Be careful as the second 60 days is not given automatically by Imm here in Thailand. You have to exit the country and re-enter to activate the second half (it's basically a border run that is often mentioned).
If you're only staying for 90 days, your first entry, that'll give you 60 days, can be extended by a further 30 as had been explained above. There's no need to exit the country. Extensions are processed at Imm here.
If you go home before those extra 30 days are finished you'll not use your second entry on the visa but it's as well to have it in case.
If you need to use the second entry, be aware that you need to exit before the visa expires so take a look at that date.
