Might well be the case. When I first came to Thailand there was basically only Singha and Kloster. Well, Amarit was still lurking somewhere but you wouldn't come across it too often. Then came Singha Gold before the march of the cheaper beers: Leo and Chang and others afterwards. Never liked Leo, to be honest it's very hard for me to swallow it, don't know why. Chang in a glass which is full of ice, that's more like it. Then again bitters weren't that easy to find even in 2008 when I left and if they were, it would have been far too expensive.

In the early days, it was Singha and then Singha Gold when it arrived.

I'm not a huge beer drinker, I prefer scotch or wine, but of the Thai beers I seem to have a opposite from you, I like Leo best, and Chang least.

When I drink beer here I prefer the darker |Mexican beers like Bohemia or Negro Modelo

There are no Thai beers available where I live in Hawaii, so I tried them all when I was in HH. No hangover, so I guess I didn't drink enough Chang!

I believe the old Amarit brewery is the place that San Miguel now uses in Bangkok. There was some rumor they were going to resurrect the Amarit label, and/or another named Bangkok Beer but no idea if has or will happen. Pete

What is great about Chang is that the strength and taste of it will stand being drunk with ice and that's a must up in Issan where refrigeration is a bit lacking.

Not a huge Chang fan, prefer Leo. Chang taste like the cheap beer that you bought from some Iranian's car back in Sweden when i was 15. The taste of Chang is quite similar to Slots Guld.

Chang 'Classic' is OK but can be vengeful the next day, just have to gulp down some water before sleep and then no hangover. Really though, Chang Classic is for the Thais to get blitzed on without spending too much.

Chang 'Draft' is Carlsberg IMO, like it though, smooth and drinkable as a default option.

Of the more expensive ones, then I like that Japanese beer 'Asahi', crisp and refreshing, nice on a hot day.

Chang or this one if icy cold. Leo or Singha in an emergency.

The previous comments just show how people's taste varies in beer. I like a more full flavored beer (preferably a dark beer or ale) and of the Thai beers, Beer Chang has the fullest flavor to me, but if I drink more that a couple of large bottles I lose much of the next day because of the alcohol content and the wicked hangovers mentioned. I don't like Singha very much and really don't like Leo. I will pay more for a good imported beer when it is available and just drink less of them... quality over quantity.

I wouldn't call one place located on the west side of the mountains outside town with a limited supply very much "more available"... or are there other places that you know of?
