Market DVDs

Post by margaretcarnes »

We often see people asking about whether or not to buy the DVDs on sale in the LOS - where to go - are they poor quality etc. Well it's a big hands up from me at least for the stall on HH Night Market.
Probably many of the other stalls have equally good stuff now - maybe it's the new DVD player that's just arrived from Amazon after a 5 week wait - but the first DVD from last trips batch is excellent quality. And believe me because it's the Cliff/Shadows final tour and any slight fault would be spotted immediately! (Sad.)
I must add though that the new players do handle several formats. How they do?

Allo Mags

one of the reasons the disks are getting better quality is that the source files the lads use to burn them are getting better quality thanks to the spread of stuff like HD TVs and Blu Ray disks....so the raw AVI files they drop off the net are now full HD quality - 1280 point seems to be the norm now whereas not so long back it was 720 point copies or lower. 1280 resolution files are a pig unless you have a good vid card in your computer and good processor/RAM setup, but make great burnable disks. If you look for the source files online you use the name of the film and then +BDRIP or +HD so "FILM NAME"+BDRIP gets you the Blu Ray 1280 resolution version.

The lads also seem now to use proper clean disks instead of the cheap crappy recycled quality cack they used a few years back that came off the stall scratched to hell and didnt last more than 6 months before developing skip issues.

Then the burners they use have got a lot better quality just like the players have...like you said good quality hi end players now play AVI, MPEG4, MP4, MP3 and some play my fave format MKV.

All that makes for hi quality cheap product.....good for us, bad for the film companies.

Boo frickin hoo as Dr Evil would say!

Thanks SM - good info. Interestingly though 1280 point is still a long way off as far as the great HD changeover in the UK is concerned. They are going for less (can't remember what) and people are rushing to buy their digi boxes or new TVs ready for switchover.
Couple of years down the line all the new gear will be out of date, and the great sales hype will no doubt start all over again.....
