1. Passport with valid Visa (Individuals with a Tourist Visa don't qualify)
2. Present residence address certified by Immigration Bureau (or police?)
3. Medical certificate stating good health

You need no photo, because this is made directly onto the new license.

OOPPSSS!!! Help please!

My wife's one year Thai driving licence ran out last week and I have only just noticed.

Is there any "grace" period so that she can still get her 5 year licence, or are we back to square one?

They'll "give" you 5 days extra so it shouldn't be a problem. (I've heard 2 weeks as well but can't confirm that).
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

The drivers licence MUST be expired before you can apply for a new one, 5 years or otherwise. There does not seem to be any set time after it expires, at least not that anybody can tell you. TIT

"Do I have to sit the colour test again" ?

I would not worry too much about it if you do have to take it again.

When I asked my wife if I would have to sit the written test (I had seen all the Farangs sitting the test in a separate room) she said no, to which I replied, thank God, because I forgot to bring the Baby Grand piano with me from the UK.
She looked at me and asked why do you need the piano to sit a test? and I said "because my bloody reading glasses are on it".

When I took my test in Pranburi, I failed to get any of the numbers in that book of coloured dots, mainly due to me being colour blind on many colours.

The examiner just took me into a room where they had a 2 Ft square blow up of a page from the book and with a pointer asked me to name the colours. He was a canny lad as he never pointed to reds or greens (my wife had tipped him off about my problem) and I got all the yellows and blues so he was happy.

The peripheral test where they flash colours in the corner of your eyes  mainly reds and greens was a total hoot, as I couldn't get any right and my wife, the examiner and I just burst out laughing at my feeble attempts.

The brake test was just as funny, lots of reds and greens again  oh how we laughed, but 200 Baht later and I had my license. TIT

Good luck. :thumb:
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Reading numbers made from dots of red and green in a book is a lot different than being able to see traffic lights. I have your problem Don but no problem in seeing lights day or night. Having said that, they did wash me out of helicopter flight training during the VN war for the same reasons, and using the same colored dots. That was a good thing though seeing what happened to the majority of those pilots.

With our international audience here, is there any other country that gives red/green color tests to drivers license applicants? Pete

They did the color blind test as well as the regular eye test with me in the U.S. Pete, at least in Florida (I can't remember what they did in California or Tennessee).

Maybe they do that in Florida because the average resident's age is above 65... :D
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

The same thing happened to my wife last week too (licence expired). Apparently have a 1 year grace period to apply again.
She had to sit through a Thai DVD referring to new laws ie; no mobiles while driving - obviously embraced by every person in LOS. Wearing of seat belts , no spitting out of cars etc.
She then had to do the braking test, & depth of field test. No comment about the Ishihara colour blindness test though
No practical retest!!

Mr Lonely,

Which office was that in, Pranburi or Cha-Am?

Tourist VISA and drivers license

Post by paul406 »

I have gotten my third temporary/annual drivers license with a tourist Visa.

you cannot get the 5 year drivers license on a tourist Visa. However, you can get a 1 year drivers license plus the supporting documents with a tourist visa.
