My daughter has just read that and says that nowhere does it mention 'bars'. It talks about businesses 'with service'. As she says that can include pretty much everything from Post offices to Railway Stations. That would explain why the police have said that bars aren't affected. Just because bars is not specifically mentioned.

Bar owners are not in denial. I agree, it could be much wider than bars, but this is Thailand. How often are they not crystal clear in their instructions? Denial does not mean exclusion. Other places are also closing e.g. True Arena.

My understanding, as it stands, is that Hua Hin will be busy next week. Indeed, I already saw visitors when I was in the central area for personal business yesterday, both Thais (in groups) and farangs.

If the Government / province is going to take decisive action, they need to do it soon and be consistent in their message. Yet all we are seeing is unclear and contradictory advise from those who should be providing a steer. Although that seems the norm.

The problem the Govt has is that's it hasn't the funds to keep giving money out, so Songkran was seen as a way of distributing funds, to some at least, to other areas, the more 'traditional' way.

Yes, we are all waiting for the decisive ruling from the Governor, which will be issued sometime today. The Thai bit I posted was from the local Covid Health site, and only stated highlights. We should get the detail soon.

The Thai term used in the 3 point notice is สถานบริการ (sathan borigarn), literally service places. Often used to mean entertainment spots (Thai style pubs and clubs) or entertainment venues in English. In fact the notice says สถานบริการสถานคล้ายสถานบริการ - service places and places like service places. So, Maya - a pub - is explicitly mentioned. Are bars in Sois 80 and 94 similar to Maya, in the sense they are smaller versions of the same thing?

Clear? Good!

Maya AFAIK is more of a nightclub. Nothing like the run of the mill bars.
They actually refer to themselves as the Maya Club. "Live entertainment", "A team of DJ's" ...........

The above posts are undoubtedly accurate in pointing out the ambiguity

However, my money is on the Governor clarifying that he's closing bars(restaurants - no alcohol)

My theory is that Thailand has its eyes on the bigger prize ie reopening Oct 1st

Any setbacks could blow that sky high so I think they will choose short term pain for long term gain and ditch Songkran as its just too dangerous

And I have to say if these spike in cases locally are to be believed then I can see why they would do that

just my tuppence...

I'm not going to get involved in a war of words written by Thai hi-sos, which at best will be ambiguous. However, I've just been looking at Wonderland as I drove past, and had to chuckle. Tables must be 2 metres apart, and no more than 2 per table. It should be fun unscrambling that instruction there. However, that rule has been misinterpreted (or miswritten) since day 1, so who designed Wonderland? I wonder what rulebook is was designed by?

I think this is it. The accompanying translation states:
The director. Prachuap sign more orders after closing Maya Hua Hin shop for 14 days.
Today, order to close the establishments that look similar to pub bar karaoke service in all areas in district. Hua Hin for 5 days from 8-12 April 64
For Songkran activity, watering blackhead, adult head, watering monk and other religious activities, you can follow the preventive measures of COVID.
And who has an event during this period where there are 100 or more people. You need to ask for permission from the Hua Hin.
I guess some will claim now their local watering hole doesn't really look like a pub :banghead: :banghead:

I doubt that Phuket will be reopening to tourists by October never mind the rest of Thailand.

There's no local vaccine production as far as anyone can tell otherwise there'd be no end of bragging about it.

The transport minister is in hospital with a high fever 3 weeks after his first Sinovac shot. The so-called health minister has no idea (telling people to wear masks, but... https://www.nationthailand.com/news/30404630).

And now B117 has somehow evaded quarantine and was found in the Thonglor cluster which fed into other clusters around the country including Hua Hin.

And still the exodus for Songkran goes ahead.

I guess the new Chula vaccine needs an infected population for its phase 3 trials.

The five day closure is to facilitate inspections and disinfection of premises and check for infection in employees. (It says)

Then on Songkran day - drink up, all will be well.

This is the latest from TAT Prachuap that states you need to scan in and report if you're returning to the province after visiting or being near these venues in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, and Suratthani as there have been cases linked to them.
