The road from Burger King ( as is now) down to the Sofitel crossroads was always interesting before they put the drains in (think it was an upgrade ?) Especially the crossroads. Passed many an hour drinking coffee wondering why people parked motorbikes there, and wondering which wake/wash from which passing pickup was going to knock which bike over next. I even remember someone high balling through there and the wake went over the bonnet of the fortuner....

I'm loving it, all day with only fans and no air con for the first time I can remember in years. Just sitting high and dry watching the President's Cup listening to the rain falling outside through the screen doors all day... very pleasant! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I wish every day was like this here! :duck: :duck: :duck: :D

you would have thought that with all the water Thailand gets that people would at least have a modicum of knowledge of how to drive in deepish water. alas no.

Tonight, on the link between petchkasem and the Sofitel crossroads there was a new Honda accord (red plates) with a low loader in front of him. Obviously flooded engine and having to be towed out. This was 10pm. At 12.30am coming back the same way there is a new BMW (red plates) about 50 yards closer to the crossroads in the middle of the road. hazard lights on. man in passenger seat on phone....

btw, flyover going out of town has a diversion since early evening thru Takiab. so much water coming down soi 112 that only high clearance vehicles allowed. at the bottom of 112 are a number of vehicles that appear to have been towed out of water and left. Still deep water coming out of town. and deepish coming in. motorbikes rare...

One thing for sure is that you'll clearly be able to determine if you have a leaky roof! It's still going over here in Rayong....all night and not the type of rain that allows you to sleep. :banghead: Pete

Seems to have abated a little here this morning but it sounds like there are still squalls around.

I'm just back from driving my son to work. Although the roads are very wet, most of the deep water has drained.

Here's a short video of some of the flooding yesterday.

Tropical Cyclone

Post by Green Nomad »

Travelling to Thailand tomorrow evening and I see that there is a bad storm brewing in the Bay of Bengal, don't like flying over there at the best of times, always seems bumpy. Anyone travelled today or will do and heard of any expected disruptions?..

We hope to land safely in BKK Friday morning..without delays,,,,wish me luck.. :| GN

You can track it below. Thailand in the center, India off to the left, storm approaching Burma/Thai peninsula. Flights are always above things like that unless it's some kind of monster storm, then they'll fly around it. I wouldn't expect problems with your flight. Pete

Correction to above. The storm formed off of west Thailand/Burma and is heading west, not east.

"Dangerous Tropical Cyclone 02B Headed Towards India

By Dr. Jeff Masters
Published: 10:09 PM ICT on October 09, 2013
In the North Indian Ocean's Bay of Bengal, Tropical Storm 02B has formed off the west coast of Thailand, and is moving west-northwest towards India at 8 mph. Satellite images show that Tropical Storm 02B is a medium-sized storm that is increasing in organization and intensity. Water temperatures are warm, 28 - 29°C, and the ocean heat content is very high, 80 - 100 kJ/cm^2--a level often associated with rapid intensification. With wind shear low, Cyclone 02B should be able to intensify into at least a Category 1 storm before landfall occurs near 12 UTC on Saturday, as predicted by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is predicting that Tropical Storm 02B may be able to intensify into a Category 3 storm before landfall. The northeast coast of India where Cyclone 02B is expected to hit is highly vulnerable to storm surge and is densely populated, so Cyclone 02B has the potential to be a very dangerous storm."

This storm is a combination of the intense low that was stalled over the Gulf of Thailand last week, and the cause of the heavy rain where you are Pete. It has joined up with the line of low pressure cells that could be seen on the synoptic chart link that I posted last week, which extended all the way from Burma to India.

The emerging pattern SHOULD indicate the approach of the end of the SW Monsoon, but to be sure you will have to ask Budda.

Well we have a temporary reprieve at least - blue skies and plenty of sunshine makes a welcome change.

From about 2009 until mid-2012 Hua Hin had so little rain that it was a huge problem and we should not forget this and most lakes are full for the first time in many years. Let us be grateful.
