The result of the first Covid-19 test on arrival for 39 Chinese tourists who travelled using the special tourist visa reported no positive cases.

Another two groups from China are scheduled to arrive on Oct 26 and Oct 28, while Scandinavian travellers queue up for November, said Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the tourism and sports minister.

He said the ministry has not received additional inbound requests from other countries.

Bizarrely, the Bangkok Post also carried a story this morning that China is still banning their citizens travelling abroad. Which led to many comments questioning the recent arrivals. I can't find the report now and I am not sure how accurate it was?

It's not hard on wiki to find interviews with Chinese saying they won't travel abroad now because of quarantine rules at planned destinations as well as when they return to China.

The report states that 6.7 million people came into thailand from abroad from april to September

How? If they came by plane and each plane had 200 people thats about 1300 planes per week

It doesn't say that. It says that arrival numbers didn't change during April to September. The total stayed at 6.69 million during that period because there were no arrivals to add.

Nothing that comes out of the TAT office is to be believed. It is just a team of number manipulators trying to keep their jobs.

If they're really counting tourists, the total from April to October should be 39. And even that is questionable since China has banned people travelling so they're hardly 'run of the mill' holidaymakers. I would imagine it is an elaborate state-sponsored experiment as part of the ever-increasing butt scratching going on between the two countries, this would also explain why Russians and Europeans are getting knocked back (after the junta has taken their money for the STV).

I saw a picture (can not find it) purported to be the line of the Chinese tourists at customs. It only showed 15 people but they were all younger males, no golf clubs in site either.

China has banned inbound and outbound tour groups. I haven't read anything about them banning individual travel.

Just watched a video posted a couple of weeks ago about the current situation in Phuket.

Quite an eye-opener:

Wow, that looks worse than the days that followed the tsunami.

I had a friend recently spend a few days on Koh Samui. He reported exactly the same or even worse. He said every other vehicle on the ferry coming home was a pickup loaded with mattresses, etc. Thais deserting a sinking ship.

Yes, it's the same with small tourist islands all over the world, take away the tourists and you have virtually no economy and probably enough work to support a handful of fisherman.

His comment ..."a shadow of its former self"....brought a smile, as how it is now is the way it always was up until sometime in the late 80's. A full reset can be an improvement, and you build from there.

Here is a question

Do you think the present thai government is planning for a future without a reliance on the income from tourist

Nothing else makes sense to me

It's certainly starting to look that way but to look on the bright side, much of Thailand seems to be planning for a future without the present Thai government!
