Loumart. The 200,000 baht in 2004 for marriage was never grandfathered.
Re: GBP vs THB
GBP against the Baht June 23 trading day after the austerity cuts were announced in the UK. Similar gains against the USD. I hope it continues. Pete

I hope so Pete; I might even get back the chance to build a modest house in Hua Hin that I've been putting off for a while.

The BOT is making moves. Here is an excerpt from the below link;
"Still, he expressed concern that Thailand's economic acceleration in the second half may pressure inflation and it could drive the central bank to take action soon. He also noted that inflation next year might exceed this year's target of 0.53 per cent, on economic acceleration."
It appears they are not going to let the Baht get much stronger. That along with any ongoing success of the GBP because of the new UK fiscal policy could be a win-win in coming months.

Re: GBP vs THB
Spot rate hit 49 today. USD looking to sell off probably, so any dollar dependant currency (like wot the Baht is...) should slowly track it downwards. Looks like the bottom is well and truly in for the pound. Not really any clues as to how far it can go from here but theres likely to be resistance to going much beyond 55. Still, from the lows that is quite a healthy recovery.
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....
Re: GBP vs THB
Yes, considering where it went down to, I'd be happy with 55 bt for a while.

Re: GBP vs THB
About 5yrs ago I had a choice to make..buy a house or get a new pick-up..?
So happy I went for the house at 71.3/£.
For some of you on here, you will have got a similar deal..?
When you are depressed at the current rate, maybe you (and I) need to look over our shoulders at
the things we got when it was a way better rate.
If like myself..the house was the major investment, then time perhaps to feel a bit smug..just a bit.

What is at least hopeful at the moment is that the downward trend seems to have reversed.
It was hard to make plans when you never knew at what level it was going to stop.
Now you can save for something which is getting cheaper instead of the opposite.

Re: GBP vs THB
There has been quite a lot of informed speculation that the Bank of England could well increase interest rates in the near future. If this is the case then we can expect the pound to appreciate against the baht.

Re: GBP vs THB
don't hold your breath on that one. it looks with all the cuts and rising unemployment that house prices are going to take a dive, the forecast is 20%-25%. no way is inflation going to be a problem so no interest rate rise for a long time.
the problem may be deflation and in that case the B.O.E will engage in additional money printing and of course this will cause the pound to dive.
we are far from out of the woods and have a rocky road ahead, especially Europe and the Euro.

Re: GBP vs THB
The interest rates will for sure rise sooner or later as they are kept artificially low to get the economy back and running. You now see a strong recovery of all European economies. That seems to be the reason why the GBP and the Euro are slowly coming back to strength.
The weak GDP/EUR helped a lot for that recovery.
I see it rising.

you see something that i don't. apart from Germany i see little recovery.
of course interest rates in the u.k. will eventually rise but i think we could be looking at several years. don't forget that interest rates here have started to go up and will continue to do so.
