it is exactly as the may on that crossroads, as you head along 102 you go past the hotel on the right that advertises 99bt breakfast and it is about 100m more m turn right at the crossroads about 20m

Soi 102 branches into two (Sois 102?) about a kilometer after the RR tracks. About two klicks further there is a crossroad that connects the two 102s. It's on that crossroad, not directly on either 102.

The map above is exactly correct by the way. It shows it on that crossroad, not on 102.

Hope they do get their problem sorted and quick. I am missing this place already.

We decided to give it a try this evening. I thought I'd check the thread to see if there was any regular day they closed, and found the above, which I think HHTel confirmed a few posts on.

:cuss: Guess what, their new regular day for closing is Monday :banghead:

Plan B - we thought we'd try another place we've been promising ourselves that we'd try. Gif's kitchen. Pulled up outside, and there's a For Sale sign attached to the menu board. We got to the entrance, and were told by the young lady inside that they only open mornings now :banghead: :banghead:

Ended up at Korat Kitchen

Had a few visits to this cafe, but on two occasions we had the fish and chips, on both visits the fish & chips were lovely
Now for the mushy peas saga.... first time we were served minted peas, not at all mushy quite watery and certainly not to my taste! I did give them a try but would not have them again even if available. I have never known any good traditional "chippy" serve minted peas! perhaps it depends where you come from?
Second time we had fish and chips (last week) very tasty mushy peas!! and looked much more like the traditional chip shop serving, that I am used to. With a little bit of salt & vinegar they were delicious, so we were very happy.

You Brits can be quite obsessive. Who gives a damn about the peas. I've had the fish and chips there and the "un"mushy peas were just fine. I've also had two other dishes and they were delicious also.

BTW, the place next door, directly to the north has a menu of two pages of calzone pizzas. They range from 150 to 180 baht depending on the filling and I had a pepperoni and sausage pizza calzone and it was large and delicious! In fact, it may have been one of the best pizzas I've had in HH. Big Boy, it's big enough for two people (my wife and I both shared one for dinner tonight) with your current appetite so take a friend/family member and only order one to share to start with.

Yes, mushies done properly are to be obsessive over. They knock spots off normal peas.

Regarding the place next door, after the disappointment of regular closing day now being a Monday, we did discuss the option of trying the pizza place. However, there was nothing visible on the outside to indicate sale of anything, and a slow drive past revealed a single table inside. We carried on driving.

I guess it's a case of being able to have something you can't generally get. A friend of mine really likes pepperoni pizza, and as very few places do it he gets quite pleased when he finds one. I'm partial to a bag of prawn cocktail crisps so if anybody's visiting from England I'd ask them to bring a packet. If there was (another!) thread about somewhere that sells imported crisps, and people were talking about what flavour's were available, I'd be sure to enquire about the availability of prawn cocktail - regardless of what other fine flavours were there.

Think of your favourite roast meat, for example, and imagine it wasn't often found here. If somebody was talking about a place that did roasts. You'd be interested in if your meat of choice was available, regardless of what other fine alternatives there were.

British food is inherently bland and unexciting. Hell a roast dinner isn't exactly anything exotic. But if you've been brought up on it, then you surely are going to crave it from time to time. And if what you're craving isn't generally available you're going to be enquiring as to where you might find it.

I can't let that go unchallenged! I think Brits have been brought up to believe that their food is bland and it may still be, compared with the myriad tastes from the east, but I don't believe this is universally the case anymore. From a European perspective, the UK probably has some of the best and most varied restaurant scenes around and I'd go as far as to say that London knocks New York into a cocked-hat food-wise too. We are a nation of borrowers, by-and-large, and we've taken the best food that the world has to offer and made it our own.

The French and Italians will tell you that their food is superior and I beg to differ. If you like tomatoes and olive oil, you'll be fine in Italy since it's pretty much all they have - save their stringy, fatty ham or tasteless beef. If you like cream, wine or butter with everything then you'll love France. Both of these foodie nations have the canny ability to squirt chocolate into just about anything, which gets dull after a while, and will take zero criticism from anyone about their fayre.

In the last 15 - 20 years, there has been a culinary renaissance in the UK and it's something that I don't think will be reversed. Gone are the days of the Berni Inn or Granada Service Station, we should be a little more proud of what we've achieved by nicking everyone else's ideas!

Bah humbug. I suppose I can put up with that if the food's as good as everyone says.

Made what our own? Yes, we have great Italian, Indian, Chinese and Thai restaurants. But that's not really what I call British Cuisine any more than Back Yard Steak or The Pizza Co Ltd is authentic Thai! :)
