Lomu,

I know a lot who have stayed at Royal Ratchaburi - brilliant course and nice accomodation. Not so familiar with Kanachanaburi - Mission Hills has 27 holes i think - played once and really nice.

Lomu,

I played Royal Ratchaburi a few times over the last 6 months and it was in good condition. Green Fee and caddie was around B800.
They were also offering accomodation and green fee for about B1500.

Before you get to RR is Panurangsi the army course which was also in good condition. Their green fee and caddie fee was B500 - but I think that was a disounted rate, the Thai rate was B300.

The RR road also continues onto Kanchanaburi via the backroads, which is meant to be a much nicer journey than going back to and along Petchkasem Road.

Palm Hills, Springfield and a demo day at the Mongkol

Post by golfhelp »

What's going on--rained off in the middle of November, so time for a couple of things to say. Palm Hills, a male and female group have, it appears, decided to get a club going, Wednesdays for the ladies and Thursdays for the gents. I've always thought that this club should encourage a 'club' atmosphere--good luck to those doing it; pro shop have details.

Springfield seem yet again to have got it wrong and subjected the course to maintenance again. Why can't they do some of this a month earlier before the loyal Hua Hin tourists visit?

Mongkol range are putting on a demonstration of Callaway and MacGregor clubs on Saturday 22nd from 12 noon with a free barbeque and there will be a number of Pros showing how far they can hit---over the back fence did I hear? On the rise of course.

Do side fences count? Teed off from the 5th at DB on Saturday and the ball landed on the fairway of the 6th, some nice Thai military folk had a chuckle as they gave me the ball back!

Buksi, when I tried learning golf a few years ago, the only times I ever played off a fairway was if it was the wrong one.
As I understood the rules it’s still in play; you can carry on up the wrong fairway and then try to chip onto the right green, you just have to keep out of the way of anyone else.
Now you know why I don’t bother playing golf anymore!

Wrong fairway golf is cool - you really get your moneys worth this way and you see some lovely parts of the course - some of the best shots ever hit come after a really wild one!!!

Years ago back home we would often play "cross country golf" when the course was empty, basically any tee to any green - this was really fun stuff!

STEVE G,
As JW says, any fairway is fine as long as you don't hit the wrong side of some white posts - that's out of bounds.
I've already let Buksida off once

I wouldn’t have had any chance of hitting the ball far enough to get out of bounds although I did once hit a Korean man in the leg with a wild ricochet off a cart track.
He was hopping mad, literally!

Anyone know where to get new or used women's clubs locally? The mrs is already better than me so I'm putting some LPGA hopes her way! Tried most of the shops in Hua Hin and got blank looks ... women? golf? (I spose they have a point!).

Will venture up to the Outlet in Cha-am this week too.

Yeah, had a look in there already, the one in Pranburi ... plenty of clones and weird brands, I don't know enough about golf bats to know what is worth buying and what will fall apart!

My wife has a set of little used, but several years old pretty good quality women's clubs. She hasn't used them in five years so she may be willing to sell them. She's typical Thai, 5 feet tall so the clubs are the smaller length.

PM me if you want me to ask her if she's ready to give it up and sell. I'd ask her now, but she's out at the moment.

Sorted! Golf shop at the Outlet just past Cha-am - plenty of kit in there.

One other observation is that prices for identical clubs are around 25% more expensive in the Hua Hin shops. A trend which applies to most items sold in Hua Hin so if you're in the market for golf equipment try this place before venturing into any of the pro shops in town.

Mongkol Driving Range also have a number of used full sets for sale.
