Aircard:

Going on the road for a couple of weeks so thought that I would try one of these. AIS 2G, not 3G, but only cost 1090 Baht including 50 Hours.

BUT, the f--ing thing will not work on my Acer Laptop, soon as I plug it into the USB port it brings up a balloon: "a power surge occurred on the hub port". To clear it follows on to "remove the device and reset the port, otherwise the port will no longer work." That part works and it resets the port.

I tried a couple of things: disconnected the ADSL switch hub, removed the mouse connection, plugged it directly into the port rather than use the USB extension cable---- all to no avail, still getting the fault.

I took it back to the shop and they tried it on their Computer. Of course it loaded ok although they could not get a signal. Hard time trying to convince them that I was not even getting that far!

Took it home and tried again with the same result. Shut down the computer, plugged it while the computer was dead and booted it up again. This time it eventually loaded, although not with auto run, but appeared to be ok. Tried to connect and it comes up with a tale of woe about a fault occurred and it will not work. Removed the software with Windows removal tool, tried plugging in again, but same "power surge" fault.

Any ideas anyone? Is there a way to increase the setting on the USB port, if that is in fact the problem? Running Windows XP Pro SP3. :banghead:

I purchased that package too, using it on my DELL laptop. Aircard is 3G, provided SIM using EDGE.
No problems during installation by autorun, but it took some efforts to get windows7 install further necessary drivers.
Booting with aircard inside prevents further requests to run autorun-routine.

I would suggest to boot with aircard installed, to log into an administrator account and to start the setup manually.

Do either of you have any software from using a previous aircard or similar still installed on your comps?

The reason I ask is when I was in the UK I was using a BT dongle (aircard) for a while. I then switched to T-Mobile but for the life of me I could not get it to work.... until I uninstalled all BT software.

Why does CCleaner show IE?

Post by Khundon1975 »

Just discovered this on my laptop after using CCleaner (Log analysis below) I noticed that the system was cleaning IE from my computer as well!

I don't use IE, (tho it is on my computer) I use Google toolbar with Mozilla FireFox, so I am not sure why there are IE files that need to be cleaned.

There are, I know, sites on the web that work better with IE, so I would like to keep it if possible but would prefer it only to work when I ask it, not when it decides to do so on it's own.

The analysis seems to show many more files on IE than Mozilla, yet I have not knowingly used IE, just Mozilla.

Any Ideas?

CCleaner

Can't really answer the question definitively KD, but might be just 'Windows' messing around and doing unnecessary stuff, as usual. I think you can un-tick the IE options in the menu of CCleaner, same as you can with Firefox/Opera/Safari etc.

But........

Spitfire :) I normally use Cyberscrub Privacy Suite, but have started to rely on CCleaner as it is faster but with a lot less options. I use Cyberscrub to wipe files slack and free space once a month. Cost around £60, but worth it IMHO as the laptop seems to run a lot faster after a good clean.
I used to use the previous version of C/Scrub on my work laptop, as there was a lot of very sensitive commercial information on there.

33 passes is one of three settings on CC and I always go for the highest.

Nothing incriminating to hide and if you believe that you must believe in CT theories. :naughty:

As to unticking the IE option in CCleaner, I don't think that would solve the problem of why IE is running and if it is, I would want to clean that as well. So no point in unticking it.

Thanks for the input tho. :thumb:

Hi georgy

I know they are Temp files and removing them won't affect my computer. The question is, why are they there if I don't use IE?

IE is an integral part of Windows, so when it scans the OS it will include IE.

POSSIBLE VIRUS

I am running windows7 and use Firefox and Gmail. My virus checking stuff is Avast and Malwarebytes

In the last couple of weeks I have been getting complaints that forwarded emails with embedded photos are being received but without embedded photos.

I have not changed any settings that may have been the cause of this.

A friend and I have discussed the matter at length and he forwarded 4 of my forwarded emails to his company email address. All were blocked. His company use a very sophisticated up market virus checker.

Any ideas guys and gals?

Hey Richard, I would change your password for your email account. It's probably spammers highjacking your email account - the little critters! I use MSN and people in my contact list are always sending spam.... They should know better than to click on dodgy links!

Hope this solves your little problem :D

I bought a 128 GB usb thumb drive at MBK and am having some issues with it. I'm trying to use it for a backup of my photography files... yes, I do have over 100 GB of photos. I have a desktop running XP Pro and a netbook running Windows 7. If I move photos from the netbook they come out ok. If I copy them from the desktop, they come out corrupted (not all, but some). I use the same usb port in the desktop with other hardware with no problems and yes, I've run a virus scan using three of the top programs both on my desk top computer and the thumb drive.

Is there some issue with larger thumb drives working with XP, or does anyone have any other ideas as to what the problem could be?
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
