You all sound like prudes fussing about whether a holiday-maker shows too much of their chubby bodies or not during their well-earned holiday to Asia.

We should all count ourselves lucky to be living here to witness it, it could be worse, we could be one of those holiday-makers.

Get over yourselves, live and let live.

I don't get the impression that people are really complaining about the semi nudity being displayed to them. I've always read this thread from the perspective of the effect this semi-nudity by our fellow countrymen is having on our Thai hosts. After all, it is all fairly common place on the odd hot day back in the homeland.

I don't care if people want to embarrass themselves but its wrong if it goes against the Thai grain, shows ignorance and lack of respect for Thai mores.

Absolutely right BB. :thumb: Burger, I've just reread this thread & JD, Hogus, Hublet and myself have all recounted incidences we have seen where Thais were embarrassed or offended by this behaviour. The understudy is Thai and has stated his dislike for this. Much as I may dislike seeing some of these more obese, hirsute sights, personally, I have done in Florida beachside towns or Spanish shops and never thought much of it (apart from "I wouldn't show that off, if I were them"). My big objection comes from the fact this is Thailand and it is offensive to our hosts.

Dawn

Couldn't agree more

But it up to our hosts to correct it

We are just embarassed resident farangs who respect Thai culture and unfotunately get tarred with the same brush

Surely beach patrols and policing on exiting the beach would solve some of the problems

On a secondry issue I now see graffitti has hit Hua Hin. All part of western progress I suppose

Too old to care anymore

Love it or leave it!!!!!!!!

brings to mind a Rolf Harris song K Richard

any way in the words uttered to me last night
who in their right mind gives a monkey's #$% about custom and tradition when they have paid through the nose for a 2 week vacation in HH ,
saying that those of us who live here it is a different story ... a little respect goes a long way

I have to say at this point in time, I would rather put up with semi-naked farangs in Hua Hin than Rolf Harris!

I Agree in full what is said above by the revered Dr.Dave da Soul monsta

For Woman who likes to wear Bikini on the Streets of Hua Hin I would please kindly ask you to cover it up with something from the waist down. In doing that you would not provoke any unwanted aproaches on you and it shows respect to the locals to the country you visit such as Thailand on your 2 week vacation. Thank you, for your corperation!!!

Your's back in Bangkok again.

Richard,
It is up to the host to make and uphold laws however, perhaps all foreign owned or managed businesses in the area could set the standard by putting a big sign at the front entrance clearly outlining dress standards.
I would think that in most bars and restaurants around the world they would have standards. Some stricter than others but a good start would be no swim wear (unless covered)
If the customer wont be served they will soon learn to get dressed before they come to that shop again.
Our hosts would notice these signs and perhaps follow suit.

A good opportunity there for some enterprising sign maker.
Can I get commission. :D

Not that it's likely to happen, but I agree with what you're saying ozuncle. So, from hereon in no visitors will be allowed in the dog center in bikinis or beachwear (we've never had one come like that, but you never know!). :thumb:

A rampant male dog may find them attractive. Keep your movie camera on standby just in case.

And I have seen 12,575 Thai's taking not a blind bit of notice of a holiday maker coming off the beach in their ...... wait for it ..... beach clothing.

Shock, horror, what's it got to do with us, we don't own the town just cos we live here.

Let the Thai Authorities deal with it if they see it as such a henious crime.
