7eventy 5ive (aka "Dead Tone")

I just watched this movie that, like my last review is a very specific type of movie that will only appeal to a few of you, but if you like the genre, it's not bad.

The genre is B movies of the gory axe slasher type that is killing stupid college kids that keep finding reasons to go alone away from the rest of the doomed group. I know, stupid; and there have been way too many of them... but... if you liked the Halloween movies, or the Friday the 13th movies, you will probably like this one.

The filming quality, direction, and even the acting is not bad considering the only person you will probably recognize in the flick is Rutger Hauer (a cop). The suspense and butchery is intense but the plot is the same as all the films in this category where you will be screaming "don't go in/out there alone you idiot" which the brain dead collegiates never seem to be able to figure out.

So watch it only if you like gory axe murder movies where a bunch of idiotic college kids get exactly what they deserve considering their intelligence level.

NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN!

I give it ...

... but only if you are a fan of this type of movie.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

World Invasion: Battle of Los Angeles (aka, Battle: Los Angeles)

One for you sci-fi fans:

Another specific genre type for a specific type of viewer. This is a new movie released this year available here on DVD that has fairly good acting, decent CGI, a reasonable plot, somewhat believable aliens (and reasons for invading), and really good action.

It is essentially a take no prisoners alien invasion for resources on planet earth and the non stop action is fun to watch. If you liked "War of the Worlds" and "Independence day" you'll no doubt enjoy this one even though it is not star studded like those two.

Give it a chance, it's not a bad sci-fi "all out war with aliens" movie.

Watched two movies last night which I hadn't seen before.

1) Remember Me (starring that guy from Twilight, Robert something and Pierce Brosnan)

2) Winged Creatures (Forest Whittiker, Guy Pearce, Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning.... quite star studded really)

Well I must say they are both movies of superlatives.....

Shittiest, Crappiest, Most Boring, Dullest, Most brain damaging....

Now I never really turn a movie off halfway through but with Winged Creatures I did just that. It's all about a tragedy that people witnessed and how they deal with the events of that day differently (with Dakota Fanning massively over-acting her part as a 'born again') and I don't know how it finishes. I love Forest Whittiker (The Last King of Scotland he is just simply awesome) but he was given a crappy role really.

Remember Me is about a young tearaway who has no relationship with his father, meets a girl, eventually gets back in with his dad just before something terrible happens to him blah blah

If you are given a choice to either watch these movies....or to watch a lump of shit be produced by a dog, become insect infested before finally hardening and going that furry, mouldy green colour, choose the turd watching - it will be a lot more enjoyable for sure.
If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!

you watched a film with the clotheshorse from Twilight in it...som nam na  Mate come on...any film with that wilbur in it is bound to be made for a target audience of pre teen panty wetters. He cant act...end of.

Now, whilst I paddle in my pool of poison and spite lets get back to Tarantino's upcoming bastardisation of the legendary Django film cannon....

Further back in the thread you may recall my outright horror at Hollywoods proposal to remake the dark twisted S Korean splatter filled extreme revenge film OLDBOY with the gurning wingnut Will Smith at the helm. At the time I made a simple proposal - that if this were the case then any sane film fan should declare open season on said Smith, hopefully using a claw hammer to bash his head in in a bit of poetic justice.

Now....guess who is the fave for being cast as Django in Tarantinos blaxploitation re-bastardisation of the Django character? Yup.... Will Smith. So, the leatherfaced gaunt mud splattered Union coated revenger Django will no doubt now become some lollygagging lawks a lawdy Black N White Minstrel show parody. Oh joy! I know Quentin! Lets drop the Gatling Gun and Coffin and give Will a pimped up steed and a razor edged Banjo with built in Winchester! He can play Camptown Races whilst sand shuffling and shootin the bad boys.

So...my proposal...that Smith represents a clear and present danger to lovers of film genres has now been proven and established as fact. If there is a film genre you love, you can probably bet that Will Smith will see it ruined.

Therefore Will Smith must die!

Tarantino can be added to the Hit List and may I propose a coffin dragged Gatling Gun be his weapon of execution?

Perhaps next Tarantino will remake the El Mariachi films with Smith? Then perhaps a remake of Reservoir Dogs starring Smith, Tyler Perry, and the all black cast of the god awful US remake of Death At A Funeral.

A plague on all their houses!

:guns: :guns: :guns:

There is a glimmer of light on the horizon.... PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4 is out at the cinemas next week, and THOR should be hitting the pirate scene in nice R5 DVDRIP format soon.

The day the Dam Busters returned... in Canada
Tom Chivers learns why Channel 4 asked engineers to rebuild Barnes Wallis’s bouncing bomb.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvan ... anada.html

OK, well not exactly in keeping with the subject as it has just been shown on TV (UK Channel 4 to be exact), but it's one I hope soon hits the P2P sites (or even DVD). Unfortunately I don't believe you can download programs to watch later from the Channel 4 site as you can with BBC iPlayer, but can only watch ''on demand'' (my internet connection is a tad too slow for that unfortunately)!!

I've always had an interest in WWII and now and as a kid love(d) the old war movies.... of course with an added interest in engineering/science, movies like ''The Dambusters'' can't be missed!! :D

Certainly looks interesting, and if anyone caught it on C4 - how was it???!!

I quite like Will Smith

I Robot.... Yep, liked that
I Am Legend (?) .... Uh huh... that too!
Independence Day..... Who doesn't??
Seven Pounds.... Tick me for that also
Men in Black, MIB II ..... sorry,... liked those too
The Pursuit Of Happyness... Me like, Me like
Wild Wild West... Okay so nobody's perfect right, it's not as bad as John Travolta's Battlefield Earth or anything. Every one needs at least one really crappy movie on their list.

Fresh Prince Of Bel Air....  Sorry. Like that too!!

Sandman said about the guy from Twilight
He cant act...end of.
True... which makes it even more shocking that he was Britains most successful actor under 30 bringing in a tidy sum of 36 million pounds for last year. With him set to make a contract to entitle him to 2.5% of the last two Twilight's Box Office takings, he is basically a f***ing rich young retard.

OOOhhhh, how I wish I was that rich, young retard - instead I have to settle for just 'retard'!

ahhh now be fair. I never said Will Smith couldnt act...just that his name is becoming associated with shitty remakes of classic films which if he had an ounce of honesty and love of film in his heart he would turn down. And I liked Wild Wild West. It will be infinitely better than this Django abortion. As I said Quentin could have made this film without shitting on the Django character. He has sunk low in my respect for doing this.

Anyway...review time.

Readers of the thread will know my love of asian cinema, and if a film has Donnie Yen in it its usually a top marks winner. So, THE LOST BLADESMAN is an easy shoe in for a three cheers keeper.

Its a historical epic in the wu-jia martial arts style based on one of the classic legends of the Three Kingdoms period of China when the country was still divided into separate warring kingdoms, and tells the story of the noble General Guan Yu and his journey home to his own kingdom. Unfortunately the ruler of the kingdom he has been fighting for doesnt like that idea, and so kippers him up and orders his troops to stop Guan Yu at all costs. Guan Yu then chops and slices his way through six generals and their troops, leaving a body scattered wake behind as he goes.

Like all these epics its beautifully filmed against stunning scenery and eye candy sets, and with Donnie at the helm chock full of top quality frenetic spear and sword swinging wire fu fun. One minor gripe is that the subtitles dont bother translating the opening and closing context text screens so you do loose out a bit, but its still excellent stuff and well worth a couple of hours watching time.

Three cheers keeper all the way.

Excellent quality DVD rips can be found at www.veehd.com and http://myasiancinema.com/. The VeeHD copy has proper hard subs and is better.

Myasiancinema also has DEATH TRANCE on there, and THAT is how you re-envision the Django character (as a samurai ronin). Take a look and you will see what I mean.

Its a steampunk action epic - sort of like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - retake on the Jack The Ripper murders set in a retro sci fi alternate 1888. Dirigibles, Babbage Difference Engines, Tesla Guns, Cavorite powered airships and lots and lots of steam, steel, pocketwatches and brass goggles. Steampunk is like an updated HG Wells...Ive always loved it because you can take actual history and remodel it with a retro sci fi twist.

The good guys are a washed up ex Afghan War army colonel and his Ghurka bagman teamed up with Peachy Carnehan and Danny Dravot from Kiplings "The Man Who Would Be King" who work for Mycroft Holmes and the Diogenes Club - sort of the original MI6. They are facing down an axis of evil made up of Fu Manchu, Moriarty, Sebastian Moran, Dr Moreau and his menagerie of gene spliced nastys, an army of boxers and thuggee all of whom are dead set on bringing down the Empire. Throw in Buffalo Bill and his Wild West Show, Mark Twain, Tesla, Dr Cavor, Darwin, Ada Lovelace, Fred Abberline, Neo-Luddite Dynamiters and a stack of side characters and hopefully it should be a ripping boys own gatling gun powered adventure.

Steampunk is making a comeback so Im hopeful it may actually get picked up and published. If not theres always the Amazon/Create Space route. Its a good two or three months from completion at the rate Im going tho. The muse is a devil and writing comes in fits and starts. Amy is bemused by the sea of post its and string on the wall above my desk. The fun has been in reading through history and remodelling it to fit the plot arcs.

when its finished I will be looking for proof readers so Ill let you know.

Alert: "Perfume" is on again on True channel 42 (MOVH). It should be running a few times a day for a week or so. We've talked about it on here before. Really an interesting story. Pete

awww man....even tho RED SONJA got shelved so that it could get made, thus denying us the sight of Rose McGowan in a saucy chainmail bikini, CONAN THE BARBARIAN looks to be excellent. Here is a taste

Arnie's Conan will remain a true classic, especially the camel punching and "What Is Best In Life?" scene...

but this does look great. And...if it does well we may yet see Rose swing her sword and shake her cakes.

Also.... PRIEST is out in the cinemas on Friday and man it looks as tasty as a peach....

What with Pirates 4 out soon as well its turning out to be a good year for fans of fantasy like me...but I still wanna see ROSE!!!!! You inflicted Juno and that twat from Twilight on us y bastards....now give us Rose in chainmail before I play clawhammer tag with your kids!
