Never used it.

Does the sound cut out with anything else or only after you've used GOM?

Usually after using GOM

The other factor maybe my switching from citywide to my mobile using EDGE

No big deal. A reboot (which with Win7 is quick) solves the problem

There you go, problem solved, use this instead: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_l ... c_pack.htm

Fixing computers is easy, they're just machines and everything is logical ... now why can't that be applied to golf!

Buksi there is no logic applicable to golf. It is you vs the course and the course wins every time :( :(

If they're in your 'outbox' Richard it means the addressee simply hasn't opened them yet. Once he opens them they move to your 'sent box'. Could very well be the person doesn't know he has received a PM, or doesn't know how to work the PM feature. Pete

I have this GOM media player appearing all the time too, but had no problem with the sound or anything. It's a freeware Microsoft media player that can play '.flv' videos downloaded off places like YouTube. Is it normal that YouTube video downloads come in '.flv' format ?, it says something on my download manager about having to be .flv as there is no java.

Wikipedia about GOM: "Key strengths are the ability to play the majority of media files without the need to obtain a codec, and the ability to play some broken media files, both advantages over traditional players, like Windows Media Player. GOM player can also play .flv files."

But anyway, what I wanted to post was this free .flv file converter, converts video to numerous formats video or music, but useful for iPhone people who want to get it as an MOV or MP3.

FLV is Flash video compression format and yes, it is what YouTube uses.

K-lite media pack/player plays absolutely every format I have ever come across, no need for conversions, try it out: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_l ... c_pack.htm

Can anyone enlighten me why my computer in my office refuses to save any downloads I do. It must have a setting or some software on it that keeps sending it back to a fix configuration everytime it is turned off and that configuration is useless, even by Thai stantards. The downloads work while it is on but once off, they are gone. It's really annoying as the computers aren't that good and some tweaking programs would help a lot, plus changing the antivirus software would be cool too.

Anyone know how to get rid of it? Won't even let me have Firefox, they've got it stuck on IE7.

Before the gurus get on here SF, if it's a company computer, all settings may be controlled by an administrator not allowing an individual user to change the set up in any way. Part of that set up may be to deny saving of any downloads or changing default programs. Pete

Maybe so Pete, but it is not a uniform thing through all the computers at the work place so I thought it might just be some and that could mean software rather than an admin thing, not sure.

Yes, there is an admin tool called Group Policy Editor that allows IT administrators to prevent users downloading and installing stuff amongst other things. Ask your admin guy if he's been using it and can you have Firefox because using IE7 is the digital equivalent of going bareback in a Namibian knocking shop!

Thanks, works great, set the default player to WMP and it automatically changed over all my stored .flv videos to a WMP icon and away from that gommy GOM player. Unless I missed a step Quicktime and iTunes didn't want to play ball re: getting video clips uploaded to iPhone without a convert to '.mov', the old Apple Factor!!

Spitfire, if you're on a work network have they not allocated a spare drive that's off their network for private use that you can have a dump in? Couple of places I worked at that had proper IT set-ups had this system, they didn't want me corrupting their network with my filthy, disgusting video clips of Spurs' goals :D

:lach: , for me it's Villa goals man.

I'll have to try to hide it in D drive or somewhere else as you suggest, will report back if it lets me skulk in the background.

The tech guys at my universtity don't seem like the buski type at all, I could put together a better system than them, and I've not got a clue really.
