FFS  Is there really such a mask shortage in the world now that individual travelers would try to smuggle out masks for resale? Spend your time on solving immediate issues such as probable and documented hotel/hospital scams concerning arriving foreigners.

Air passengers limited to 30 masks

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... o-30-masks

Departing travellers are not allowed to take out more than 30 medical face masks unless they have a medical certificate, because they are controlled goods, according to Suvarnabhumi airport management.

An announcement posted on the Suvarnabhumi airport Facebook page on Friday said passengers with a medical certificate could take up to 50 medical face masks in their luggage.

Otherwise, the limit was 30 each.

The Royal Gazette website published an announcement by the government's central committee on prices of goods and services on Jan 25, 2022, placing medical face masks, polypropylene (spunbond), a raw material used in making the masks, alcohol-based hand sanitiser and recyclable paper, along with chickens and chicken meat, on the state price control list.

The regulation is in effect for one year.

In March 2020, Airports of Thailand and the Department of Internal Trade issued a regulation restricting travellers from carrying abroad more than 30 medical face masks, to prevent shortages. That regulation was effective until June 30, 2020.

Violations of the Price of Goods and Services Act of 1999 carry penalties of up to five years in prison and/or fine of 100,000 baht.

Here we go, they're starting to talk some sense now, even bringing up a resurgence of traditional, common diseases like avian flu and dengue. He is still trying to placate the emergency decree and control people saying that preventive measures are still necessary, but that will pass soon IMO as they will start to be ignored if they don't rescind them.

Big drop in Covid cases forecast for mid-year

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... r-mid-year

The Department of Disease Control forecasts that Covid-19 infections will significantly decline later this year, to only 200 cases per day in August.

The department chief, Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, told a media briefing on Friday the Covid situation should improve significantly in the middle of this year if there is no variant factor interference, especially a newly mutated SARS-CoV-2 virus strain.

Right now the rate of infection was rising in Thailand, but it would later decline under the principles of epidemiology.

The model projected the number of daily cases would be around 4,000 per day in June, 1,000 per day in July and below 200 per day by August, he said.

As reported on Friday morning, there were 9,909 cases in the previous 24 hours with 22 deaths. This led to the department asking the public for cooperation in tightening up preventive measures.

Dr Opas said many factors were pushing the numbers up, especially the relaxation of controls on dining out and the expanding number of small clusters countrywide.

So preventive measures against the disease were still needed to control its spread.

“Please do not be overly mindful of the figure. It is not important as long as our public health system can effectively manage the outbreak. The most important point is that we have large-scale vaccination, especially the booster dose at 21.4%,” he said.

Current measures were enough to control the situation. Many countries with more daily infections had not put in place any extra measures to control the disease.

In addition to giving its Covid-19 forecast, the department warned people to exercise caution against other diseases that might show a resurgence this year.

The number of patients with avian influenza could hit 22,817 cases this year, up from 10,698 cases last year. Dengue fever could reach 85,000 cases, up from 9,956 last year - the peak period expected in July with 13,769 cases predicted.

As far as I’m aware, the large packages of masks are 50 in a pack, so are they really suggesting you should open the pack up and take 20 out, increasing the risk of contamination? TIT!!

Singapore's daily local cases triple to 13,000

https://www.bangkokpost.com/world/22592 ... han-13-000

Singapore reported a record 13,046 local coronavirus infections on Friday, triple the previous day's tally.

Singapore has recorded 85,357 cases of the virus over the last 28 days, but 99.7% of them had no or mild symptoms.

The country has fully vaccinated 89% of the total population against Covid-19, while 59% have received boosters shots.

Authorities have previously warned that daily cases could rise to as many 15,000 due to the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

These sort of figures are a worry - not that they are of a real medical concern, but the risk that the Junta here will overreact if a similar trend follows here, even though in Singapore and almost everywhere else, the symptoms are very mild - they’ve tested positive so put them in hospital (especially those dirty foreigners)!!

To be fair I think it's only arrivals into the Land of Scams that are hospitalized with positive results. Meanwhile only serious cases amongst residents are put in hospital with mild cases(as Big Boy may attest) self isolating at home.

Ok sorry for overreacting but certainly for new arrivals, it must be a concern.

Agreed, some of the stories coming out just smack of extortion and fraud.
