The only "historical" thing I can think of around that time would be the Channel Tunnel, but doesn't really tie in with the comments.... :?

Yes, Dannie Boy wins by less than a minute.

Shops opened legally on a Sunday for the first time on 28 August 1994.

After 26 previous attempts to relax Sunday trading laws, the Sunday Trading Act allowed all stores in England and Wales to trade goods on Sundays.

The new law was opposed by the Keep Sunday Special Campaign, which feared that Sunday trading would lead to an “erosion of family life.”

Originally broadcast on 28 August 1994.

If I’d have been asked when it began, I would have guessed a lot earlier than 1994

I remember daft Sunday laws in the late '80's at least, where Garden Centers were allowed to open but you were not allowed to buy things like lawnmowers.....

If memory serves, it was things like Branson/Virgin Records defying rules in France and opening their Paris stores on a Sunday that really kicked off the change in the law in the UK. They also got fined something like £1 million for doing so - that said, probably cheap advertising!!

I've found a source now of "happened on this day in xxxx" on an email I get everyday. There may be more of these if they seem interesting.

Edit: If I do more from time to time I'll start off with a direction to go in instead of just a date.

Going back to the earlier question: -

"When and who first patented the earliest Fax/Facsimile?"

It predates the telephone, however was transferred electrically. It produced a Facsimile and predates what we know as the Fax Machine.

You got the "flying boat", so to speak, correct. :D

Clue: If the bridge had been completed you would know exactly where the photo was taken. Knowing that, you would know what direction the plane would go and what area of the world serviced.

It's surely the Golden Gate Bridge, so it must be heading south to Mexico?
This is the way

Golden Gate is correct. Mexico is not. The direction it "would go" not necessarily "was going" in that photo. Don't take the direction the plane is pointed on the compass in that photo literally. We're looking for the service it would enter after this, the maiden flight.
