Flintoff’s Road to Nowhere
I watched the first episode on "catchup" I enjoyed the journey, looking forward to the next. It makes you think about the rainforest and what man is doing to destroy our environment.

Does anyone have or know where to get complete HBO, Cinemax, AMC, etc., original series DVD's preferably? I'm interested in series that we've missed like The Wire, Deadwood, House of Cards, Hell on Wheels, etc. in original soundtrack with Thai subtitles.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Quiz programmes

Post by Vital Spark »

If you're into quiz programmes, then you've just got to watch the new series of Fifteen-to-One. I used to watch this programme yonks ago, and it's now back with Sandy Toksvig as the host. A great way to while away 30 minutes or so.

Still hooked on Mad Dogs. I thought it was just a one-series programme, but we've just finished watching series two and there's another one after that.

There is a guy that sells dvd's in the little night market area downtown. The market I am talking about is the one that runs behind City Beach hotel. Sorry I can't give road names, but I am sure you know the market I am talking about or at least get the idea of location. I just walked there last night and he seemed to have quite a few TV series. We bought a new HBO series called True Detective https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_De ... TV_series)

A programme I've enjoyed watching called Wire in the Blood, is being shown on itv3 on the Thai Expat TV channel. It's fairly old (2008) and stars Robson Green amongst others, but worth a watch IMO.

Think this may be worth watching. Jamaica Inn. Tomorrow BBC 1
I love Daphne du Maurier...so enjoyed Rebecca, one of my all time classic favourites.
Jamaica Inn is a British drama television series that is set to first broadcast on BBC One on 21 April 2014.
A three-part series

Veep, IMO is the funniest series on TV at the moment.

Starring Julia Louis-Dreyfuss (Seinfeld) and penned by Armando Iannucci ( Alan Partridge etc).

Season 3 now in progress. Political satire at its brilliant best.

A few to keep an eye on:

TURN

Ripping little costume drama set during the American Revolution which, instead of covering Washington et al, focussees instead on the intelligence battle behind the lines, and spy on spy action.

Great stuff, off to a really promising start. Im hooked.

THE BLACKLIST

James Spader chews the scenery in this modern day spy and crime drama. When a top level fugitive who has been on the run for 20 years walks into the FBI HQ and gives himself up he comes bearing gifts....a list of the real top 200 international super criminals and terrorists who the FBI are blissfully unaware of. So begins the biggest baddest bad guy hunt ever, with the fiendish and manipulative Red Reddington feeding the FBI one bad guy at a time in a deal that keeps him out of prison and free to pursue his own twisted agenda. One that is wrapped tight around the young FBI officer who he seems to know more about than he is letting on.

Really top drawer stuff, with Spader playing possibly one of his best roles ever. Definitely a three cheers keeper and tense as a bag of weasles as it reaches the end of season 1.

ELEMENTARY

It took me a while to warm to this one, but now Im a solid fan. Sherlock Holmes set in modern day New York, with Johnny Lee Miller as the recovering smack addict auteur detective, and Lucy Liu as his sidekick Dr Watson.

And now his devious brother Mycroft has shown up, its really starting to warm up over there in the big apple.

have at it chums! The game is afoot!

PENNY DREADFULL

A gothic costume fantasy horror drama.... Van Helsing meets LXG set in a steampunky Victorian London full of witches, werewolves, vampires, and a mad Dr F sewing bits of bloke together for fun and frolicks. Its got Eva Green in it, so how can I a mere mortal resist her all consuming eyes and teeny yet perfectly formed goth bod....and oh that accent.

Sends shivers down my spine.

Just started but out and about all over the shop.

Totally agree. Ignore the holes in the plot, Spader has the role of a lifetime. Worth watching for that alone.

Haven't seen anything of the others, but will definitely have a look.

LONGMIRE

"Walt Longmire is the dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming. Widowed only a year, he is a man in psychic repair but buries his pain behind his brave face, unassuming grin and dry wit."

Set in the present day, but with definite cowboy undertones, and in that respect not dissimilar to Justified, though probably not in quite the same class. Too early to tell, and a different part of the country. Robert Taylor is the world-weary Longmire whose job is threatened by an ambitious young buck, and plays the role splendidly - an Aussie, apparently, but you'd never guess.

In its first series and well worth a look.

EDIT: I'm in its first series, but Longmire is in its 2nd...

Ah, a couple I forgot and just watched the end of series 2 in one case

THE FOLLOWING

Grewsum Orrible Murders abound in this cop thriller about one broken down cops mission to bring down the worst serial killer ever. Kevin Bacon plays the cop whose life has been in shreds since he brought in the college professor turned professional psycho serial killer Joe Carrol, played to the max by the wonderful James Purefoy. Joe escapes from prison and sets off on a new murder spree, this time using a network of fans and fellow psychos he set up while inside. In series 2 Joe takes over a hippy cult and goes full Charlie Manson on the world.

There are more plot holes than a fishing net, and the characters often do completely stupid things to push plot arcs, but hey, its a wild ride all the same and compulsive watching

HANNIBAL

A revisit to the backstory of Hannibal Lecter, here played by the scary and sinister Mads Mikklesen as he plays games of death and cannibalism with an FBI violent crimes unit and their somewhat fragile auteur profiler.

Gruesome and twisty as a corkscrew, with the monster of the week episodic plots woven into a chase tapestry between the profiler and Hannibal.

Excellent watching....just dont be eating dinner at the same time.
