Re: Fish and Chips
Didn't I read somewhere recently that North Sea Cod stocks were almost back to sustainable levels?

It was certainly reported on the BBC website (although we are warned that they don't always tell the truth!!) that cod stocks were "almost" back to sustainable levels.Big Boy wrote:Didn't I read somewhere recently that North Sea Cod stocks were almost back to sustainable levels?
Re: Fish and Chips
Most Brits a few years back only bought cod, haddock or rock for their F&C
Changed a little bit but for me if the fish is fresh, white when cooked and has a firm texture it's all I require
Cant' beat a bit of smoked haddock though. Don't need the batter, peas, chips then

Plaice was always my fish of choice, though I often had to wait for it to be cooked.richard wrote:Most Brits a few years back only bought cod, haddock or rock for their F&C

Now you're talking Richard..........makes me homesick. As a kid back in Cape Town, I can clearly remember my Dad coming home with whole smoked haddock or smoked snoek......awesome.

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact

TTM : I have just been to Villa so I looked at the fish you mentioned above. Birds Eye Harry Ramsdens is only 54% fish.
Some fish fingers, I think Birds Eye, were also 57 or 58% fish even though the label on the front of one of the boxes said something like 100% haddock.

That's easy - the 57% that is fish is 100% haddock!Pagey wrote:Some fish fingers ... were also 57 or 58% fish even though the label on the front of one of the boxes said something like 100% haddock.

Re: Fish and Chips
I guess that what they mean is that 100% of the 50 something percent is Haddock or Cod or whatever the fish is. Being processed, they are not as nutritious as you might hope!!Pagey wrote:TTM : I have just been to Villa so I looked at the fish you mentioned above. Birds Eye Harry Ramsdens is only 54% fish.

Re: Fish and Chips
OMG, I aint eating that again then.
To be honest and hate to admit they tasted great, huh maybe they add cod flavouring.
So maybe I will try the so called birds eye fish cakes next.
Problem is I cant stand real fish apart from cod and if it has skin on then you might as well feed it to the animals.Yuk.

Re: Fish and Chips
Your a wrong un richard, a wrong un I say.
I just cant bring myself to eat ugly fish, some I have seen remind me of things I used to see in stingray as a kid.
Apart from good old british cod and chips if it aint in a birds eye box then leave it alone.
Now I am no longer sure of birds eye though.
And who nicked the last box of harry ramsdens from villa?. Got to wait for restock now.
