You can get those century old eggs in Thailand. I tried one and thought it a bit nasty to be honest, but the locals like them.
I know they have them up in Issan, but I'm sure you would find them in the day market in Hua Hin as well, but you would have to be keen to want to try one because the transparent brown colour of the white isn't exactly an appetising sight.

Could not be any more revolting than those "black" chickens" It turns my stomach just to think about them!

How do you know what color a chicken was before it got slaughtered when you buy one at Tesco? Some are were brown, some were white, and others were black. :thumb:

Now that's one of the advantages of the Issan outdoor style kitchen, instead of having to go to Tesco, the chicken walks to the kitchen by itself!

Now that's what I call "dying with dignity" :thumb:

Hats off to the Isaan folk as well for welcoming all chickens in their kitchens, irrespective of race or color

It doesn't even have to be a chicken; if it walks in, they'll eat it!

At those family parties they keep offering to let me pluck the chickens, (strangely it seems to be some kind of honour) but I always offer to go and buy some more beer instead to get out of it.
It wouldn't be so bad if they were completely dead!

Be happy they don't give you the honour of grabbing it by the neck and doing the spinning. I've witnessed that a few times and indeed the thing runs around the yard for 1-2 minutes even though it is indeed dead. I hit a soi version with the truck last week and must have run over it's neck. It was actually doing 360〫flips with no head in the middle of the road for as long as I could see it in my rear view mirror. :alien:  :alien: Pete

You obviously have not shopped for chicken in Tesco, mate. I am talking about the colour of the flesh, not their clothes! :rasta:

When I lived in oil camps in the Middle East, the standing joke was that the Arabs slaughtered the chickens by starving them to death: they were that skinny they could not have possibly been still walking around when they were slaughtered!

lol.............I honestly have never seen black or blackish chicken meat. One thing is for sure........there's no way I would eat it or even try it, just as I wouldn't put one of those 100 year eggs anywhere near my mouth. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to eating food. Just give me a plain old chunk of meat on the BBQ and I'm happy. Anyway, I'm curious now about the black chicken so I'll certainly look out for it, but like I said, I won't be eating it. :thumb:

Well, now I've seen everything. Does anyone know how they become that color or why? I just showed Mrs Takiap the picture and she says she's never seen them before so she has no idea.

If they are simply regular chickens but with a black skin then I suppose I could eat them but I'm sure you don't get chickens with black skin. I must admit, looking at them also makes my stomach turn. Damn but they like some strange stuff over in this part of the world.

Below is not the only type. There is more on Google. I've seen them here in Tesco from time to time. Wife says it's mainly a Chinese thing and used for soup. Pete
