These foreign investors have no previous connections with their clubs and just view them as investment opportunities or prestige trophies, my own club, Arsenal, are trying to resist a takeover bid by a Russian zillionair, if he succeeds the spirit of the club will probably be lost forever.
That would be the Arsenal who play in the 'Emirates' stadium...? :?

Good point Spurs have, and vice versa since 1974.

SJ
What happened in 1974?

I was at this game in April 1975, is this what you mean? (I blame the Police!) -

With both teams in the bottom three, the match was significant in terms of points, but also for the events surrounding the match. Fights on the terraces spill over onto the pitch and the game's start is delayed by ref Jack Taylor, while Police struggle to clear the hooligans from the playing surface.

A young Chelsea side, featuring Ray "Butch" Wilkins, tried to hold out, but despite the goalkeeping heroics of John Phillips, goals from Steve Perryman and Alfie Conn secured three valuable points to move Spurs out of the bottom three and virtually condemned the Blues to Division Two.

Teams :
Spurs - Jennings, Kinnear, Knowles, Beal, Osgood, Naylor, Conn, Perryman, C. Jones, Duncan, Neighbour

Chelsea - Phillips, Locke, Sparrow, Britton, Droy, Harris, Hay, Wilkins, Maybank, Hutchinson, Cooke

Crowd : - 50,998

Didn`t the rivalry between Spurs and Chelsea start with the FA cup final in 1970? If it was then I seem to recall a bad tempered match which went to a replay which Chelsea won. BTW Dataai Maai thanks for the compliment on my memory, I don`t trawl through previous postings trying to find evidence to use against anyone, and I certainly don`t hate anyone because of the team they support, I was just amused by the irony of Spurs following the path of sponsorhip which you denigrated. Thanks to RZR for finding the postings.

Think that the 1970 Cup Final was between Chelsea and Leeds, not Spurs, but Chelsea did win after a replay and I think David Webb got the winner with a header.
But I'm sure Chelsea played Spurs in the Final a year or two earlier, maybe 1967,and Spurs won at the first attempt.
Could well be then that the rivalry kicked off.

Spurs have a prefference for playing cup finals in the second year of a decade,so it will be 1971,I was in the army then but cant rember the opponents, but sure Super Jo or jimmy greaves will enlighten you shortly

My mistake, it was Chelsea v Leeds. Leeds were perhaps the most disliked team at the time because of their style of play which bordered on the violent, with Norman Hunter, Billy Bremner and Jack Charlton leading the way. But 1971 was the Arsenal double year, I was at WHL to see the win after they beat Liverpool in the final.

There has always been rivalry between Chelsea and Spurs, just curious why SJ cites 1974?

The irony of the report from the game in 75, above, is that it pre-dates Hillsbrough and may have been one of the reasons fences appeared at English grounds? If fences had been in operation on that day, then I may well have not been here to post about it.

DM, every dog has his day! I make it a policy never to brag about what my team will do to yours etc. Clearly it can bite you on the a``e and make you look very silly.

no wonder they call him harry houdini :D
liverpool could & should've been at least 5 up before spurs equalised

but thats football for you, as awful as they were for most of the game, spurs took the points for taking their chances when they came.
cracking goal from carragher by the way  :D

As a life long Spurs supporter (My dad used to take me there as a kid) it's good to see them getting a lift with 'Arry on board. Much needed. Long may it continue.

Yes it WAS 1967 that Spurs took the FA Cup against Chelsea.

I remember it well - I was in a mens surgical ward awaiting an appendectomy due the following day. All the other blokes were Chelsea Supporters. I bet them all 2 bob that Spurs would win.

19 bods coughed up 2 bob each - GBP 1 - 18 Shillings - a fair sum in those days. Never forgotten it.

Showing my age!

Likewise (but I was 10!) - I was there, and it was the day I became a Spurs fan.

Boy, do I sometimes wonder why!
