(Reuters) - A Nigerian opposition party accused its political rivals of sabotage on Tuesday after its vice presidential candidate was forced to make an emergency landing due to a runway invasion by rams and goats.
Fola Adeola, vice presidential candidate for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and other party chieftains made the forced landing, damaging their plane, after airport staff in the northern city of Bauchi failed to control the beasts.
"Is it possible for President (Goodluck) Jonathan ... to be involved in such a situation where the runway he is to land on will be filled by rams," campaign spokesman Ibrahim Modibbo said, adding Adeola and others on board had "narrowly escaped death."
"We suspect sabotage," he said in an emailed statement, calling for an immediate investigation.
Former anti-corruption chief Nuhu Ribadu, the ACN's presidential candidate, had to remain in the air for over an hour in another plane before the runway was cleared.
Africa's most populous nation holds elections in April. Past polls have been marred by irregularities, but they have tended to involve ballot-stuffing and fraud rather than farm animals.

(Reuters) - A Malaysian landlord was shocked to find his double-storey wooden house missing while making his rent call, local daily The Star reported on Friday.
Zuria Ali, 30, said he was greeted by the sight of scattered wood, a damaged television set and twenty-four concrete pillar holders when he went to the site of his house in Malaysia's northern Perlis state bordering Thailand.
"I had heard that my house had vanished and was curious to find out the truth," Zuria was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
He lost his furniture, cutlery, cupboards, a dining table and a refrigerator and estimated his losses to be about 30,000 ringgit (6,200 pounds).
Zuria's neighbour, Ah Kiung, said he saw three men and a trailer arriving at the house last month.
"I thought the three were carrying out the dismantling work on instructions from the landlord," Ah Kiung said. "I did not suspect anything until he (Zuria) asked me about it.
Police confirmed receiving a report about the "missing" house, the newspaper said.

A SNAKE who bit Israeli model and actress Orit Fox in the chest died after being poisoned by an unusual venom - the silicone in the buxom blonde's surgically enhanced breasts.
Spanish TV channel Telecinco's footage of Fox's encounter was racking up YouTube hits Monday, with some users lamenting, "R.I.P. snake," and the less-informed commenting: "I wish I was that snake!"
The video shows the model fondling and licking the serpent for a feature in Israeli DJ Shmulik Tayar's radio show, before the snake got fresh with Fox and latched on to her bountiful left breast.
Watch the video here (Warning: Graphic content)
The model yelped as a man wearing a T-shirt with a Spanish profanity written on the back rushed over to help.
Fox was taken to Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera, northwest of Jerusalem. After a tetanus shot and a few hours of observation, she was released, according to Telecinco.
But the snake did not fare so well. Days later, Telecinco reported that the creature had died of silicone poisoning.

SAN ANTONIO (CN) - A man is expected to face three charges of attempted capital murder after a standoff with police that began when he ordered seven Beefy Crunch Burritos from a Taco Bell and was upset that the price had gone up from 99 cents to $1.49.
"They did use to be 99 cents, but that was just a promotion," Taco Bell manager Brian Tillerson told San Antonio Express-News. "He pointed a gun at me, and he fired it. I leaned to the side and there was a pop but nothing happened."
That gun apparently was an air gun. The man, whose name has not been released, then stood off police for 3 hours at a hotel until officers drove him out with tear gas Sunday night.
The Houston Chronicle reported the man "is accused of shooting an air gun at the restaurant manager, displaying a semiautomatic assault rifle and pistol, then exchanging gunfire with three officers."

Another tale of the folly of letting the general public own guns:
Defecating dog sparks US shootout
(BBC)
Two neighbours in the US state of Mississippi drew weapons and fired at each other as an argument over a defecating dog ran out of control.
Associated Press news agency said Jerry Blasingame, 60, has been charged with assault for shooting Terry Tehnet, 52, with a shotgun.
Mr Tehnet was angry because he thought Mr Blasingame's dog had defecated on his lawn, in a rural part of the state.
Mr Tehnet, whose injuries are not life-threatening, may also be charged.
The two men gave AP different versions of what happened.
'Meet me at the levee'
Mr Tehnet said he visited his neighbour to complain about dog "poop" on his property.
Mr Blasingame blamed him for shooting his dog the week before, Mr Tehnet said, and told him: "Just meet me at the levee and I'll shoot you down."
Mr Blasingame told AP he got his gun and drove off but Mr Tehnet did not follow so he returned to the neighbourhood.
The two men confronted one another again and each claimed the other produced a weapon first.
"He shot twice, I returned fire," said Mr Blasingame.
Mr Tehnet said Mr Blasingame opened fire first with his shotgun so he took his pistol from his car and fired back.
He said he was hit in both hands, the shoulder, chest and side by shotgun pellets, AP reported.
Washington County Chief Deputy Sheriff Billy Barber said: "Homeowners and property owners need to respect each other's property... If a dog did that in your yard, call the law. Don't take matters into your own hands."

And another: (I'm not looking for these deliberately, they just pop up.)
MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- A Marion County man said he was just being neighborly when he befriended an elderly next door neighbor. However, he said the 92-year-old woman wanted much more from him.
Dwight Bettner said when he wouldn't give Helen Staudinger a kiss, she opened fire.
Staudinger wanted a kiss and when she didn't get one from 53-year-old Bettner on Monday afternoon, deputies say she got angry.
"There's three holes in the wall and one in the window and of course, one in my car," Bettner said.
Bettner said his home was hit with a barrage of bullets, shortly after he finished a conversation with his elderly next door neighbor.
"So she started to leave and then she said, 'I'm not leaving without a kiss.' And I said, "I have a girlfriend you're not getting a kiss,'" said Bettner.
When Staudinger opened fire, Bettner was standing on the opposite side of the window where the bullet hit.
"When the bullet came through the window here, it hit right here," he said.
When Marion County deputies went next door to Bettner's home near Fort McCoy, Staudinger told them she didn't remember where she put the weapon. But, deputies found a semi-automatic on an end table.
In court Tuesday morning, she asked a judge to release her from jail.
"She's pretty much raised hell for quite a while, but I never thought she would start shooting at me," said Bettner.
Staudinger was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and aggravated assault.
She has a bond set at $15,000, and her daughter is expected to bond her out.

The sheep were stolen from a field in Clapton sometime overnight between Wednesday and Thursday
ABOUT 350 sheep have been stolen from a field in Kintbury this week.
Sometime overnight between Wednesday (March 23) and yesterday (Thursday), about 350 sheep were stolen from a field in Clapton, off Station Road in the village. A fence was cut to gain entry to the field and the sheep were led onto the road to be loaded. PC Will Smith, from Newbury police station, said: “The sheep were tagged and it is likely the offenders would have spent some time getting the sheep on to a lorry. “If anyone has any information that could help us with our enquiries, please contact us immediately”.

Over 2,000 cattle killed by unseasonable cold spell in Chiang Mai
Unseasonal cold weather in the North has killed more than 2,000 heads of cattle in Chiang Mai's Om Koi district, with a sharp temperature drop to 7 Celcius degrees in affected areas in the past few days.
Livestocks officials are paying inspection visits to farmland and cattle farms to advise handlers to prepare the animals to cope with the cold, while giving medicines and germ killing drugs to prep up their health. In Chaiyaphum, where average temperature is 17 degrees, handlers are advised to make bonfire to give heat to their cattle.

Morbidly obese man found fused to chair
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/wo ... -to-chair/
A morbidly obese man has been found welded to the chair he had been stuck in for two years.
The 43-year-old from Ohio in the United States was found unconscious by his girlfriend on Sunday.
According to the Daily Mail, a hole had to be cut through a wall of his house to remove him and his chair. He then had to be prised free from the recliner and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but later died.
It has been reported the man was found sitting in his own faeces and urine and was covered in maggots.
He had refused to leave the the chair for two years and was given food and soft drinks by his girlfriend.
Paramedics who were called to the house said it was the worst thing they'd ever responded to.
One official said that after coming into contact with the obese man, he'd been forced to throw his uniform away.
Health official Jim Chase said: 'The chair was very filthy, a lot of odour to it. Going in the house, the house was not clean.
The living room where the man lived in his chair was very filthy, very deplorable. It's unbelievable that somebody lives in conditions like that.'
According to friends, the man was suffering problems with arthritis but was afraid to see a doctor.
One friend said, 'He said he didn't like doctors. So you can't force somebody to do something that they don't want to do.'
