ICELAND, GERMANY TO DONATE COVID VACCINES TO THAILAND
Iceland and Germany have agreed to a donation of COVID-19 vaccines to Thailand, a government spokesman said.

Iceland has offered 100,000 Pfizer vaccines, while Germany pledged 346,100 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines, said government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, who expressed his gratitude for the two donor nations.

The German vaccine donation will help augment the efficacy of the distribution of vaccines throughout Thailand, Thanakorn added. People who have received two shots of Sinovac prior to July are being told to get their booster shots made by AstraZeneca this month.

Both the donation of 100,000 Pfizer vaccines from Iceland and 346,100 AstraZeneca vaccines are expected to arrive in Thailand this month, around the same time as Hungary is set to fill an order of 400,000 AstraZeneca vaccines the Thai government had previously ordered.

Thailand has recently stepped up its procurement of several different vaccine brands, including the delayed shipment of 1 million Pfizer vaccines from the United States, which is said to be waiting on the Thai government completing the proper paperwork through the correct channels.

Why does Thailand need a donation of over 300,000 AZ vaccines when it's churning out millions of doses every month? (/sarcasm)

Those donated vaccines should be going to those countries waiting on deliveries from Thailand.

From UK Gov:
Thailand Will be added to this list of countries and territories with approved proof of vaccination 4am Monday 11 October. If you arrive in England before that date you must follow the rules for people who are not fully vaccinated. If you arrive after that, you can use a vaccine certificate to prove your vaccination status.
This country is currently on the red list. If you have been in a red list country or territory in the 10 days before you arrive in England, you must follow the red list rules.

Approved vaccines
You must have had a complete course of one of the following vaccines at least 14 days before you arrive in England:

Oxford/AstraZeneca
Pfizer BioNTech
Moderna
Janssen
The day you have your final dose does not count as one of the 14 days.

Formulations of these vaccines, such as AstraZeneca Covishield, AstraZeneca Vaxzevria and Moderna Takeda, also qualify as approved vaccines.

Just to be clear, mixing approved vaccines is allowed.

2 dose vaccines

If you were vaccinated with a 2 dose vaccine (Moderna, Pfizer BioNTech, Oxford AstraZeneca, or a combination of them), you must have had both doses to be considered fully vaccinated.

This applies in all cases, even if you’ve recently recovered from COVID-19 and have natural immunity.

Those who have had COVID-19 and have only had one dose of a 2 dose vaccine must follow the rules for unvaccinated arrivals.

Where 2 doses of a vaccine are required for a full course, you can:

mix 2 different types of vaccine from the above list, for example Oxford/AstraZeneca and Modernahave the 2 vaccinations under 2 different approved programmes, for example Australia and Japan, UK and USA, France and Canada

Single dose vaccines

If you had an approved one dose vaccine, such as Janssen, you are fully vaccinated.

None of those combinations are available in Thailand as far as I know.

My Thai wife who UK is also a uK Citizen wishes to travel to the UK early next year. Is there anywhere in Hua Hin (or failing that Bangkok) where she can get the required vaccines to avoid quarantine in the UK.

I asked this a while ago and got shot down for it. As far as I know, the only way to avoid Sinococktails is to go to a private hospital in Bangkok (I know a couple that have done this).

Also interested in other non-Bangkok options for Thais if there are any.

Does anyone know what private hospitals in Bangkok could provide the vaccine.

The director-general of the Department of Disease Control, Opas Karnkawinpong, said, generally speaking, drugs don't have a 100% efficacy rate and are more effective when administered in the early stages of an infection.

That's a little misleading, I think. This drug (molnupiravir) doesn't have anywhere near a 100% efficacy rate. It's only 50% effective in preventing hospitalisation, according to the manufacturer's press release.
