Pretty much everything immigration does is designed to create jobs/paperwork and generate extra revenue. None of it is about making lives easier for those that have to deal with them.

Many of the immigration laws here were conceived decades ago when there was a fraction of foreigners in Thailand - they're simply impractical today, but filling desks and collecting fines is what its all about.

#3 totally contradicts the announcement made earlier, and posted further above, concerning 90 day reports. Sowing the seeds of confusion.

Actually, it just reinforces what I've been saying for a while - you can't believe anything that is being written at the moment. There are so many versions of the same truth, you simply have to sort the wheat from the chaff - not easy.

If you're 90 day reporting is due, do it, then there's nothing to figure out.

Easy to do online which avoids the queues at Immigration

Exaclty, I always understood it that the amnesty was only for tourists that couldn't get back, and the reporting/extensions/fines would apply as usual to non-imm visa holders.

I think the ambiguity come with the wording of some of the posters. In the example above, my initial reaction was why the hell did I bother renewing my visa in June?

Instead of broad based terms such as Long Term Visa, maybe they need to be more specific.

It's done on purpose to give each immigration office/officer the power of discretion to change it at their whim.

As I reported back in June, I was late in extending my stay based on an O-A visa and not even an eyebrow was raised so I’m fairly certain it’s a blanket extension for all visa types..........until somebody proves me wrong!!

If that was the case they would have sent you away and told you not to bother.

Personally, I'm not taking the risk and will do the reporting and extension when due. I simply don't trust these "announcements".

Agree, I'm doing the same and just doing everything as normal as I too don't want to hear about a sudden 180 decision by some jobsworth at immigration that wants to justify his existence or get sucked up into the stampede to the immigration office to sort out nonsense at the last minute with goodness knows who else. Luckily got my extension early in the year but have been doing the 90 days as should be so am Persil white on all fronts.

That specifically states 'visa extension'. You and I are not able to extend our visa. We apply for a further permission to stay, based on our original visa.

I believe the posters are in regard to 60 and 90 day visas. Applying for a further 12 months permission to stay has not been waived and needs to be done as usual.
