But you said, "The primary card has to be True." You're confusing me.

Well what I meant was that it's a True phone that takes a True SIM card, but has a second SIM that will accept any provider's SIM that works without a True SIM being inserted.

So back a couple of posts then :D , there is no charge for the True SIM if you don't use it.

Next question then (sorry, just trying to clarify) will both SIM slots accept non-True?

I just bought the phone without a SIM and the girl at the booth (3rd floor MV) used a machine to reduce my full size SIM to make it a mini SIM and put it into the 2nd slot. I've not tried using the first slot, but I'm fairly certain that it only takes a True SIM.

If it takes a second AIS SIM I cant see the problem with ordering from True, not using their service, and saving 1,300 baht on an identical device in Hua Hin.

As said, my current phone is behaving so no need for a new one until it dies - I'm not vain enough to warrant the latest iPhart every time a new one comes out! :duck:

No, I agree, a bargain at that price, but for reasons already stated, I went for the cartel price. My choice, particularly relevant because the clowns at True, Market Village are not user friendly.

A friend last night was showing me an AIS branded smart phone he had just bought for 1,700bt, I'm not really into all this stuff but it seemed pretty solid and makes you wonder why an iPhone costs such a huge amount when they're both knocked up in China anyway.

Samsung S6 Ringtone

Post by MajorBloodnok »

Hello,

my wife bought me a Samsung S6 mobile.
As I did not use a mobile before, I am learning the ropes.
I got myself an excellent manual 'for seniors'.

However I was somewhat disappointed that I don't seem to be
able to download a selfmade ringtone.
Does anyone know better?

Thanks!

Kind regards,

Most phones sold by the Service Providers, while cheaper than market prices, come with a slight hitch. They are tied to that particular service provider. So it can be difficult to switch service providers by just changing out the SIM card.

With the latest debacle regarding bandwith wars, AIS lost out on the 900MHz frequency and are now left with only the 2100MHz frequency. This means they are unable to service the 2G market thus the touchscreen exchange for your old handset at a very low price. The new phone will only be capable of using 2100 MHz so changing to another Service Provider that has some older 2G frequencies with that handset is not possible.
I have thrown away at least one Service Provider handset in frustration, and have had to change Service Providers for my GPS car tracker as it uses older (2G) technology.

Have also jumped from a Samsung to a higher specced Sony Xperia and while the initial learning curve and data/ phone contact/ memo changeover has been a bit frustrating and messy I am happier with the less cluttered and slightly (IMO) better user interface.

My two baht worth.

Just a tip to all Android users. Make sure you synchronize everything on your phone with your Google account (all Android phone users must have an Google account). In addition to this if you download and install Google Photos, you will also have free and unlimited backup of all your photos. If you do this you can change phones as often as you like without having any issues whatsoever getting everything into your new device.

I have myself changed phones 4 times the last couple of years, and have had absolutely no issues doing the above.

It's no longer the case that mobile phones sold by network providers are locked at least not contract phones.

Things changed as it was pointed out to airtime providers that you still paid a set monthly sum regardless of sim.

My s6 edge + came from the 3 network and is also unlocked.

If you do find yourself with a locked phone the airtime provider will give you the unlock code.

Falling that it's cheap to unlock these days.

2 things I've learnt since getting my very 1st smartphone at Xmas...
#1..The Samsung Service Centre staff are very polite..but their tech-folk are pretty useless!
(9 times my phone was 'repaired' by them to sort out a reccuring problem..only to have me pack-down the sim with a bit of folded paper & wedge in the battery..bingo..works fine now).

#2..All other family members have Samsung phones (ALL more expensive than mine)..ALL are constantly on charge it seems..batteries are always low!
On getting mine as a gift, I then checked online for reviews..each review said the Samsung V-plus is let down by poor battery-time..well..
Every phone in the household shows location & temperature (Hua Hin. 26' ) on their home-screens..to enable this you must have Google Play running..THAT's the main draw on the phone's battery..I've now disabled this feature & my battery life has gone from 20hrs to 3 days!
