It's not that Pfizer runs out exactly but there is some data suggesting that it may not be as protective after 4 months or more, especially when measured in terms of infection from the Delta variant.thecolonel wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 6:21 pm But now reading that Pfizer 'runs out' after 4 months or so, so like I say in the long term it seems to be about what we have for the 3rd and 4th shots. Hopefully they will improve in time too

However that's based mainly (as far as I know) on some data from Israel. Data from the UK on the other hand, shows it as maintaining a much better level of efficacy than the Israeli data.
The thing about efficacy figures is that they're dependent on time, location and the characteristics of the population segment being tested.
Efficacy figures from a different location, done at a different time and involving different groups of people, will give different results.
The bottom line for me is that even the Israeli figures, while showing lower efficacy against infection, showed the vaccine was still very effective at preventing serious illness, hospitalisation or death.
Having said that, various countries are moving towards giving 3rd booster doses so that's probably the way we're all going to go eventually.
