Re: The Digital Surgery Making the page image sharper.

Is there anyway or a program that will enhance the lettering by making it darker or the whole page sharper? Please do not mention glasses because this is a relatively short term situation of a few months.
I had the same problem with this forum - There just wasn't enough distinction between posts on the main page and those little animated icon were driving me mad.

I found a Chrome plugin called Stylebot. It seems quite simple to use and lets you change the colours and layout of any web site to suit yourself (within reason). You should be able to change font colours and background colours and font-sizes as well.

My new view of the forum looks like this.

I have actually the sdame problem as PET and I followed the Google bit and downloaded what seemed to be a good thing and have now got a virus from something called LUCKY SEARCHES, which I now find can often be received when looking for Flash and video problems. Now how do I uninstall this ? It is a real problem on the Home Pages of IE Chrome & Firefox, and manual suggestions do not work. Would SKYBOT do this?

The Flash player is notoriously problematic with Firefox.

Have you tried uninstalling the plugin under 'Add-ons' in Firefox, restarting FF, then manually downloading and installing the Flash Player separately (without FF running)?

musungu, seems you have a browser hijacker, try running the Spybot scans to remove it - if that fails you may want to try 'Hijackthis': http://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/

Post the results and we'll advise what to remove.

You are absolutely correct about the browser hijacker. In desperation last night I downloaded SPYHUNTER and that has removed it with a number of other things.Initially after I downloaded it I was asked to pay $30 to remove the 250 items so I started to uninstall and in that process they offered a discount to $10 which I accepted and am happy with the result. BUT, I see they will charge me automatically every 6 months $30, so I have diarised to cancel after 5 months. Sorry I did not wait for your response though.
I shall attempt to follow your suggestion for FlashPlayer, Actually when I go to Add-Ons it is not mentioned but it could be that listed as Flashplayer ? Anyway when I click to check if any Add-Ons need to be updated it ccomes up clearly as Adobe Flashpler and confirming it is upto date - When it does not work at all. My question is should I uninstall Flashplayer and then restart and manually download Adobe Flashplayer?

Be careful with any software that scans your computer and tries to charge you - this usually IS the malware.

Yes, disable and uninstall FP from the FF plug-ins page and reinstall manually.

This page will tell you which is the latest version and which version you have installed: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Slowness shutting down means Windows is having trouble terminating a process, Skype can be problematic, so make sure you close all programs first. If it still does it hit ctrl+alt+del to see what is still running.

Pending Windows updates will cause very slow shutdowns.

Changes to Google Chrome

Post by pharvey »

Lately I've been have big problems with Chrome - very slow to load pages, if at all. Initially I thought this was simply the Internet connection as I'm currently working out in the sticks in Spain. However, the problems became worse and Chrome was crashing on numerous occasions - I then started getting messages that certain sites I was visiting would no longer be supported etc., etc. (no, not porn...). "Shockwave" will no longer be supported - which I'm sure plenty of sites use.... what happens from here?

I for one am returning to Firefox.... not that I really left, it's always been kept on the PC!!

Too many plugins will cause slow-downs and crashes, try disabling a few. The Flashplayer is problematic on all browsers, I hope this will become a thing of the past soon.

Google will always strive to push its own services above others, it is a business afterall.

^ Thanks buks - will take a look. Are there any "default" plugins that you would recommend getting rid of? Also (as it's a company laptop) I have to use Kaspersky Internet and software security (not that I find any problems myself), but I have heard that people have had issues using this software - have you (or others) heard anything?

Ta muchly in advance.... :thumb:

I found that Kaspersky slowed down my Toshiba Satellite laptop - have since reverted to ESET all seems OK now. ESET was pre-installed on my machine as a trial, but it received great reviews in comparison tests.

I agree that the dreaded Windows weekly updates slow everything down. Surely MS could display a pop-up to warn you when updates were being (auto) installed...?

I've just had a problem with Firefox Thunderbird!!!
Thunderbird downloaded an updated version on my computer during the night. That's not normally a problem, but this time it has installed as a new program and doesn't recognise my existing email accounts. I can't see all my current emails, either. Anyone know how I can remedy this please???
