An interesting one again perhaps and another "Street Circuit"..

Of course things have thankfully changed with the cars and how competitive they are, BUT there are those who enjoy certain circuits... Lewis holds the Lap Record here, and has won it 4 times over the years, though not for a while. Ferrari love it having won the most - followed by Red BS... This really could be a good race with what McLaren are doing at the moment.

VS, could you allow Parahandy to take one of those Wooden Spoons this week? :D :duck:

A red Flag in Q3 (this time due to those on 4 wheels) led to the absolute lottery of a "Single Lap Shootout", with some surprising results for Sunday's Race Grid....

Sainz spun off minutes into Q3 causing the Red Flag with only Piastri registering a lap time by that point. Sainz's Ferrari will likely need some significant repairs overnight/Sunday morning, but will now start from P10. Leclerc completed the Q3 disaster by having his lap time deleted and therefore starting in P9.
The big surprise though saw Crashappen put in a decent enough time for P2 and Mercedes recovering from a pretty poor Free Practice session to get on the Second Row of the Grid....
Not the easiest circuit to pass on, but this could be another interesting race :thumb:

It is somewhat petulant by Crashappen, but to be fair to him (for once) - what a ridiculous decision and overreaction by the FIA... There are somewhat more important matters to resolve in F1.

As for the race itself, there were a few exciting moments and a few "near misses" - amazingly, no Yellow Flags this year! Excellent drives from Norris, Piastri and hate to say it Crashappen. A shout out to the youngest on the Grid, Williams' Colapinto who came in at P11 - some cracking displays so far in only his 3rd F1 race. Definitely one for the future.
Mercedes will be fairly happy with their display after the opening days, though Lewis was a tad pi$$ed of with the team's tactics in bringing him in early for a Pit Stop - he has a point to some extent, but was never going to stop Piastri and unlikely really to have stopped Leclerc.
No "official" confirmation from Ricardo or Red BS yet upon his future with the team, but plenty of strong rumours, an emotional post race interview, and a gifted 3rd Pit Stop to go for the "Fastest Lap" seems to be a farewell to the sport for him. In no way do I resent the team or Ricardo in taking the opportunity to go for the fastest lap, but given that neither can or will benefit from an additional point (only Top 10 Finishers can) and it was taken from Norris on the Final Lap quite possibly having a key effect on the Driver's Championship (Norris now 52 points behind with 6 Races to go)..... Hmmm. Anywho: -

Well, hardly unexpected - I just hope his replacement is not just another petulant (younger) version of the ****** that Red BS seem to adore.

It has been on the cards for Ricardo for some time - he hasn't performed well, but neither has the car - and at 35, he's certainly getting on in F1 terms and not quite to the standard of LH or Alonso. F1 is certainly cutthroat and younger drivers (quite rightly) are coming in - sad though, as F1 is losing a great character and a genuinely "nice guy".

Ricciardo Replaced by Lawson at RB For Rest of 2024

"Daniel Ricciardo has been replaced at RB by Liam Lawson for the remainder of the 2024 season.

The 35-year-old Australian has been dropped with six races to go because Red Bull management have been unconvinced by his performances.

Giving Lawson the seat allows him to be assessed over the remaining races before Red Bull finalise their plans for 2025.

RB team principal Laurent Mekies said: "Daniel has brought a lot of experience and talent to the team with a fantastic attitude, which has helped everyone to develop and foster a tight team spirit.

"He has been a true gentleman both on and off the track and never without that smile. He will be missed, but will always hold a special place within the Red Bull family."

Ricciardo said in a statement on Instagram: "I’ve loved this sport my whole life. It’s wild and wonderful and been a journey.

"To the teams and individuals that have played their part, thank you. To the fans who love the sport sometimes more than me, haha, thank you. It’ll always have its highs and lows but it’s been fun and truth be told I wouldn’t change it."

"Until the next adventure.""

So, F1 is back after the break!! Much to the undoubtedly avid delight of the devout supporters on the Forum – “DM, Lost, BB” et al, mark your calendars!!
Changes in staff, movement of Drivers, MAJOR Upgrades will make things interesting in Austin to be sure! The circuit itself has had major resurfacing work done, so this will no doubt effect tyre grip and wear – as will the Texan weather!! Many teams looking at “Car Floor” and “Downforce”, but it truly is a balance… Will this help Red BS?
The latter part of this season (so far) has been far more exciting than it has in a fair old while – McLaren overtaking Red BS and chasing down the Dire Dutchman. Mercedes and Ferrari are of course also chasing and it all makes for a great end to this season and a particularly good one in 2025!! Personally, I’m looking forward to what AM and Haas can do in the coming seasons…
Anywho!! On to this weekend!!

Times are UK (sorry)...

Not the correct decision IMHO. Ricardo didn't score the point as those out of the "Top 10 Finishers" can't score the point. Why not simply extend the rules to say those outside of the "Top 10 Finishers" can't compete for the point - that would simply have meant Norris would have taken the point last time around. The Bonus Point adds some interest, though can obviously be abused. A better ruling would be that nobody can have an outright second team - Red BS being the only ones that currently have the privilege. F1 go out of their way to refuse Andretti's repeated efforts to join the championship, yet bend over backwards for Red BS... Money, money, money as that Swedish lot would mention.
