The Dig (Netflix)
It's about the discovery of the Sutton Hoo treasure https://www.britishmuseum.org/collectio ... sutton-hoo in Suffolk. I've been looking forward to this as it's centred around 2 of my favourite subjects; archaeology and history. I loved every minute of it, but it's definitely not going to be everyone's cup of tea. It's slow and gentle, sad and romantic, and gives an interesting glimpse of rural England as World War II is about to break out.

I too was looking forward to this one for the very same reasons - maybe looking forward and expecting too much as it was a bit of a let down TBH. I did enjoy it, but couldn't say I loved it.dtaai-maai wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 12:54 am The Dig (Netflix)

Very decent horror. Any fans of the genre won't be disappointed. Not sure it warrants its 100% rating on rotten tomatoes but definitely scores high for me.
His House 2020
A refugee couple makes a harrowing escape from war-torn South Sudan, but then they struggle to adjust to their new life in an English town that has an evil lurking beneath the surface.

Evil lurking beneath the surface in an English town? Who'd a thunk it?
Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
Pretty decent Thai horror from 2009 if you've not seen it.
Phobia 2
Remember watching the first one at the cinema in Bangkok and wasn't that impressed. Movies are unrelated so don't need to see the first. A collection of 5 short horror stories (The original '4bia' was four shorts) by some of Thailands most famous directors of the genre. I enjoyed it.
It's on Netflix UK, dunno about Thai Netflix.

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
With the lack of new movies, I'm sifting through previous years' that I hadn't got round to. The first is not a recommendation at all. Not. At. All. Thought I'd mention it as more of a warning than anything else.
The Human Centipede II 2011
Holy fck knuckles what the hell was that! I'd seen the first. Quite gross but did not prepare me for the second in anyway. The problem here is you can't unwatch that shit. Those images are forever embedded in my brain. My only hope now is for the sweet embrace of dementia to erase this monstrosity. Jesus christ. If caught with this on your hard drive, don't be surprised if you are put into a 'facility' of some sort.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe 2017
With high ratings, I thought I'd seen this before. Turned out I'd only seen bits of it. A hell of a movie. Probably up there in my top 10-15 horrors. A Jane Doe is sent to a mortuary to determine cause of death. Strange things start happening. Very good movie.
The Wretched 2019
Very watchable horror. Was pleasantly surprised.
A defiant teenage boy, struggling with his parent's imminent divorce, faces off with an old witch who has possessed the neighbour next door.
All downloaded on YTS.

^^Jesus, have you considered watching the occasional romcom or something, just to lighten the load...?

I do throw the odd romcom in the mix, too. Got round to that About Time the other day which was good. Same writer as Four Weddings and Love Actually. Bridget Jones's Diary is also a guilty pleasure of mine.

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
Not really a recommendation just an observation.
My family (Thai) are really into zombie movies. They've watched the full series so far of 'The Walking Dead' followed by 'Fear the Walking Dead'. Now the zombies in those series and many films are what we expect. Slow staggering undead that eat flesh when they can. Since then over a range of movies, we've seen the usual (walking dead type) and dancing zombies and olympic zombies (very fit and can run). Now there are 'Zombie Ninjas!' Tailor made black catsuits, glowing red eyes and any one of them could take on Bruce Lee and all his friends. Of course, you can't shoot them, they're 'undead'!
What next!

As an antidote, you could try News of the World (Netflix). Nothing to do with celeb phone-tapping, but a gentle western starring Tom Hanks (has he ever played a baddy?) as a former Confederate army captain after the Civil War going from town to town reading the news. Easy watching, fairly predictable, not a zombie in sight.

Can never go wrong with Tom Hanks. I'll try that one later. Hadn't heard of it.

Yep on both counts! Some cracking movies - "The Boat That Rocked" being one of my chillout favorites.....

Has he ever played a villain? The 2002 drama "Road to Perdition" is the closest Tom Hanks has come to playing a villain, but even that's a bit of a gray area. Yes, his character, Michael Sullivan, is a hitman with the Irish mob, and sure, he is known as the Angel of Death for his kill count and efficiency.

Hanks also played an evil, cultish CEO in a 2017 movie - The Circle, a film about internet privacy and social media’s political implications.
The movie bombed though, so not many people have seen it.
