Not sure if this is the right place for it, but this morning I fell for an innocuous looking email from somebody I know, but it turned out to be a scam. I guess it was my mistake for opening up the attachment but as it was from somebody who emailed me just a few days ago I was off guard.

Who/whatever it was took over my emails and I could no longer access my account - putting in my password was not recognised - I assume it had been changed. I eventually managed to log into gmail and answer loads of questions to prove I was the rightful owner of the email account and eventually I was allowed to reset my password, but this is a reminder to be very careful when opening odd looking attachments, even when it's from somebody you know.

This is the danger of using free web-based email such as Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail, they're not very secure.

I'm still on the AOL dinosaur but have been thinking of leaving it for a free e-mail service.

Is there a good, secure one that is free?

Getting rid of an unwanted start up page

Post by Takiap »

When I launch Google Chrome, the home page is:

http://th.hao123.com/?tn=incore_pay_sc_01_hao123_th

I have never ever even visited this site, and no matter what I do, I can seem to stop this from happening. I have google.com set as my home page in my Google Chrome settings, but it has made no difference at all. Now I know this isn't a major issue because I simply click on my home button and I go to google .com but I still find it bloody annoying that this site can muscle its way into my life.

I have no idea how this happened. For the last few years my internet has always opened on google.com until this bloody hao123 nonsense started.

Any help much appreciated.

I use "Techemail.com". It is free, or has two levels of paid service. Have been using it pretty much since it started, over 10 years ago. Never had a problem with it and never get any junk mail with it.

I had the same problem with this hao123..... When I checked the internet options (home page) I found that it had been overwritten. Simply deleted what was there and reset my homepage. My only home page is google.com and that works regardless of which browser I use.

Hope that helps

Where do I find "internet options"?

I tried the "internet options" in control panel but no mention of a home page there.

OK don't know if it'll make any difference, but the way I do it is put the page to what you want as the home page. When its open, click on the symbol immediately to the left of your address and drag it to the little house on the right of your screen.
