HHF

I too get multiple pop ups now from Avast prompting me to upgrade. I had to remove and reload AVG some weeks ago and since then this has happened. I concluded it is my newly downloaded version of AVG that is causing this not FF

I've had the same, and it's probably awardhotspot.com. A nasty virus that I can't get rid of. It is really corrupting my HH forum page - and NOTHING ELSE. Coincidentally, I got it when we switched servers. Buksida has assured me that it has nothing to do with the forum.

When on HH Forum, everytime I try to click something, the page jumps. I can take several attempts to click what I'm trying. It is getting progressively worse. What was annoying, is now becoming virtually unusable.

There are extra bars appearing between posts. I've tried re-setting to an earlier date, but it won't allow me to restore to a date tbefore the server swap.

Any sensible advice on removing awardhotspot.com would be gratefully accepted. I say sensible, because there are spoilers on Google, who actually kill your machine dead when following their instructions.

Its malware BB, absolutely nothing to do with this forum.

Note: DO NOT download anything else to remove malware, genuine instructions will tell you how to do it manually, you may have to fiddle with the registry though.

All I can say is that is happens with every click in FireFox but not in the other two browsers I have on my machine. I'm thinking of removing and reinstalling FireFox to see if that makes it go away.

Mine is not awardhotspot, it is cdnloader. When I search on how to remove that I get pages that suggest all the things I have already done... :?

Scanned with malwarebytes, Spybot, Avast, Advanced System Care, no viruses found... :? :? :?

I miss-wrote that a bit. Actually Spybot always says it found 1 item after a full scan, but when I view the list of found items to quarantine or delete it, the list is always empty.... so it's finding something but can't tell me what it is??? :? :? :? :|
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Again, more malware by the looks of things:
http://forum.precisesecurity.com/comput ... -mydatasrv

You guys are going to have to attempt manual removal or take the machine to a good IT techie (if there is one in HH).

A few things to look for:

Suspicious processes running in Windows Task Manager
Suspicious files/programs running on start up (need to check registry for this (Win 7): regedit: HKLM-SOFTWARE-Microsoft-Windows-Current Version-Run)
Dodgy add-ons/toolbars in Firefox (check add-ons and extentions)
Uninstall any programs/software you dont need in Control Panel - Add/Remove programs

This is virtually impossible to diagnose without having a look at the machine.

I just check at batteries.com and they don't have your model, but all of the EEE PC 1000 about 6 different sub models all use the same battery.. Check it out to see if they look like yours... I am heading to Hua Hin on the 16th... I could try and get one here before I head out.... Let me know what you decide... Would have to pay 2nd day shipping to get it here on time...

At pantip plaza or any Tukcom, there are shops making new batteries out of your old one. They just open it and replace the set of batteries inside, keeping the original electronic.

Ebay Hong Hong:

You might have to pay duty on it if customs pick it up.

Internet Download Manager

Post by musungu »

I have started to get up a box on my screen headed Internet Download Manager. In the box it states " Internet Download Manager has been registered with a fake Serial Number'' This box comes up every minute after deleting.

I do not know what has caused it but I did have Windows 7 re-downloaded a few days ago (it would have been the usual HH copy), and this started 3 days later. When I go into it more I come to a page which says I should pay for a genuine IDM and they want about $25.

I do not know if this is a scam and have therefore not entered my credit card details. I have run Malwerebytes, and tried Adblock.

Can anybody enlighten me

I've seen that on 2 PCs recently - both times I uninstalled the program with no ill effects. However, rather than take my word for it, please wait a bit unless somebody has an alternative solution. I would hate to be the one who suggested something that didn't work.
