Today is actually better than the last couple of days in my opinion. However, since last year's problems with Mrs BB, we run a couple of heavy duty air purifiers in the house 24/7. I probably monitor the air quality more than most.

As I said in a previous post, the quality has been worsening since September.
What kind of air purifiers do you use?

My wife has been coughing more than usual. She goes outside to hang clothes, I rarely go out so I don't notice it.

Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 3H [Global V.]

Simple to use, silent (unless on highest setting, and they have been brilliant. There is a constant readout, which informs you of the air pollution levels in the room. Before putting these machines in, my wife couldn't sleep the night through without having difficulties. Since putting them in, she sleeps like a baby.

I think it is essential to buy the Global Version, else everything is in Chinese.

Thank you.

I forgot to ask where you bought it?

Yes, they are popular machines. You need to shop around because prices vary a lot. If you are really desperate to be parted with your money, you can easily be parted 3x the Lazada price. However, when trying to be thrifty, make sure you find the Global Version. The Chinese version is much cheaper, but unless you speak Chinese, you will be struggling.

Whilst the numbers on the right of the page are not out of the ordinary, my wife's machines are indicating some of the worst readings I've seen, and the warning lights have turned red. I've closed everything up, and the machine numbers are now dropping nicely. I guess there's some local burning going on outside.

I actually dismantled the machines initially to make sure they didn't need cleaning, such were the readings. Cleaning was not required.

Is there filter(s) inside which need replacement or cleaning? If replacement, how easy to get new ones and approx cost?

Yes, there is a filter that will need replacing every 6 to 12 months )machine warns you when changing is required. Filters are easily obtainable from Lazada, and cost around 600฿.

I am a technical ignoramus, and even I can change a filter in less than 30 seconds.

It's not just Bangkok, the bad air is creeping everywhere now. We need a good rinse, and perhaps with the approaching cold front we'll get some showers.

Bangkok air world's 3rd worst

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -3rd-worst

The air quality index (AQI) in Bangkok soared to an unsafe 190 on Tuesday morning, ranking the capital third in the world's worst air pollution list.

AirVisual reported that particulate matter 2.5 micrometres in diameter or less (PM2.5) was measured at 57.8 microgrammes per cubic metre (mcg/cm) of air over the past 24 hours.

The safe AQI threshold is 100, and 190 is in the range of unsafe for health.

The Pollution Control Department reported Bangkok's highest PM2.5 level of 118mcg/cm on Din Daeng Road in Din Daeng district, followed by 102 on Charoen Nakhon Road in Khlong San district, 100 on Ma Charoen Road in Nong Khaem district, 94 on Srinakarin Road in Prawet district and Tha Phra intersection in Bangkok Yai district, and 93 on Sam Sen Road in Phra Nakhon district.

In Thailand, 50mcg/cm is the set safe level, higher than most countries.

Spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit said Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon had ordered agencies to stop farmers burning field trash, ask industries to reduce production, facilitate traffic flow, limit construction times and put vehicles spewing black smoke off the roads, to reduce smog levels.

We've all heard that before and here we are again.

Yesterday I followed a black smoke spewing truck, south on Petchasem near MV. Not a cop in sight.

I like that one. To look better simply change the safe level standard to fit. :banghead:

I use the Xiaomi car air purifier and am also happy with the result. As BB says, there is a filter that will need changing every 6-12 months. But you also need to clean the intake for the sensor to reset it otherwise it will continue to misread. I did not, however, connect to the wifi option as that will connect to the Xiaomi server in China.. It still works fine without the mobile phone app.

Don't be afraid - all very easy to do. If I can manage it, a 1 year old could do it.
