Im aware of that but in my experience from different government offices for some years is that what is said not always function as that in practical terms the day you show up and say "but I was told I could wait" Especially so if you met the "wrong" person that day. :| TIT. :)

Well you appeared to be struggling to find a resolution to your problem, so my suggestion was to try to help - you might need to visit the offices and ask?

Renewing your 5 year Thai licence up to one year after expiry without penalty is a FACT.

Check with the DLT.
You can renew your license up to 3 months before the expiration of your current one. You can also renew it up to 1 year after the expiration date with no penalty. If your license has expired by more than 1 year, you must retake the theory test and pass 45 of 50 questions to renew.

^^ That's a fact at the dlt office, but may not be if stopped for a police check. The report linked earlier mentions leniency until the end of June.

I believe I also read somewhere that they're closing the loophole where you can get an extra year by going just after your birthday. But that may not be a fact. Yet.

Police check? Do they still happen? It must be 12 months since I've seen a police check that actually stops vehicles.

I found something here https://www.dlt.go.th/en/
and here https://web.dlt.go.th/dld/2021/04/01/announce-005/

In addition to reducing procedures and periods of contact with the public government, the company has also reduced the process and duration of contact with the public. It also reduces the risk of activities that have been grouped in the training room for an extended period of time. Comply with public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 The online training period has been extended to be valid for 6 months from the date of training. Since when did a renewal of a 5 year passport require sitting through that ridiculous video. From recollection, it was required moving from a 2 year (temporary) licence to a 5 year one. I've only ever had to suffer that video once. and I've renewed 3 times since. No vid.

Last time I renewed mine I had to sit through a video equivalent (a Thai man giving a lecture on road safety etc) for about an hour - this was at Cha Am.

I think it is luck of the draw. Last time I renewed, I had to watch the video. It wasn't needed for the 1 year licences. Friends went a few days either side of me, and didn't need to suffer the video.

Renewed my 5yr licence twice at Pranburi and had to endure a video both times :banghead:
