So,out of Uniteds Champions League and Premiership winning team who cost more than 20m? I can only think of Wayne Rooney.
Even Liverpool,who arent a top 3 side,forked out over 20m for Torres.....money well spent,I should add. :)

Zidane
ferdinand 30 mil

like i said, over the past 3 years, with the same budget as wenger, would he have been successful ??
OK,I'll give you Ferdinand.I thought he was 18m but that was West Ham to Leeds.
But you cant say if he would have been succesful or not......look at the home grown players United produced in the past......Beckham,Scholes,Giggs,Butt,the two Nevilles didnt cost a penny so its impossible to predict.

Liverpool have spent over £20 million once, ever.

Well chosen figure there Zidane, as RZR said, the best part of £20 million.
Carrick, Anderson, Hargreaves, Nani (Thriller Era Michael Jackson) all £17 million plus.

Tevez will be over £20 million.

Ferdinand and Rooney £25 million plus.

Thats over £140 million spent on 7 of your players, averaging at £20 million each.

Slur Alex a genius?

When you look at the 'Big Four' they all have different approaches in trying to achieve success; Manchester United have a mix of a good youth policy and buying top young players so their current first team has youth and experience, British and foreign players, and credit to ferguson, he does try and give young home grown talent a chance; Chelsea do not appear to have any youth academy prospects being brought through, although pre-Abramovich they did: they also try to buy top talent which is no surprise given the amount of money their owner has, and the only player in their first team that has come through the Chelsea ranks is John Terry i think - I believe their biggest problem is the changing of managers so often; Arsenal are, and always have been, hampered by the board's wage policy, and Wenger has truly been a magician in both unearthing young talent and keeping them happy and at the club once they become stars, but I feel that could be starting to unravel now, and i wonder how long Wenger will be manager, despite their better than expected performance in the league last season, as he has shown signs of the strain in recent months; Liverpool's approach has changed drastically since the glory days of the 70's and 80's, although they still bring through youngsters, but increasingly they are trying to buy in talent - I am surprised Benitez is still in the job because I feel he has tried, unsuccessfully, to impose a strict rotation policy on the squad, as well as some of the most bizarre substitutions I have ever seen, and also spent a lot of money on some very good players without getting the trophies and in particular the Premier League.
This has been said before in the last few seasons, but I really believe that the Big Four will get either broken into, or be expanded to a Big Five or Six this season, despite the potential challengers all having problems - Spurs look like starting the season with no strikers, Man City have both a new manager and another host of new players to blend in, Everton seem to be losing players without replacing them, Blackburn also have a new and untested manager at this level and have already lost or are about to lose several players, Aston Villa may or may not be losing their captain and have already lost Mellberg, which leaves Portsmouth who currently look the best chance of 5th or higher, assuming their manager isn't put away!
I am obviously hoping that my team can be dark horses this season but then like my dreams they fade and die.... :thumb:

He has bought some of the best young talent in the Europe though.

It wont be to long before Pacheco and Nemeth come through, you havent heard of them yet but you will do.

The Rotation policy is also a tabloid created myth.
Torres was actually rested once last season.

Benitez has made bizzare substitutions, he took Gerrard off (god forbid) and Lucas came on and scored the winner in the merseyside derby.

He has spent big money but others have spent double, but he overcome the big spenders in La Liga, this season will tell.

Also the big 4 will be exactly the same in any given order
Deluded spurs fans, and others, always have illusions of grandeur and are left dissapointed, when in truth the probable favourites to finish 5th are Portsmouth or Villa.

I'll have you know that I'm very often left disappointed, but have had no illusions of grandeur since the days of Gascoigne, Liniker and Terry Venables. :(

As a Spurs fan, I'm not sure I'd know how to react if they started to regularly beat the bottom 6 clubs. I might need a drink or two.

It all started when they gave Pat Jennings to Arsenal...
This is the way

I only said Wenger has a superior intellect to Ferguson, glad it got so many people to respond though!

Robbie Keane is expected to complete his 20.3 million move from Spurs to Liverpool today....good signing for the Scousers I reckon.

Andy Johnson is also expected to finalise his 13m move from Everton to Fulham in the next few days....apparently wants to move back to London for personal reasons.

Louis Saha from Man Utd is wanted by French club Paris St.Germain but Roy Keane from Sunderland also wants him and is preparing at 10m bid.....heres hoping one of these goes through !! :D :D

Brilliant player, had the pleasure of watching him many a time down at White Heart Pain.
Will be a great player for the mickeys, good money for us, although its the usual some now, the rest depending on appearances etc.
Does loads of work off the ball, out wide, picking the ball up in midfield etc. Spurs fans will be sad to see him go no matter what they say.

All we need now is Berbs to go the Man U and we can start the season without any top strikers and finish about 14th.

Doesn't matter we can live off the Chelsea league cup win for a good few years yet :D

Maybe in whatever division they are in.

I can remember Yorkshire as being the number one county for soccer. What has happened up there?

Leeds down the pan and Sheffield only ever getting a sniff with one or other of the clubs. Bradford slipped away. Rotherham, Doncaster, York City, Hull, Halifax etc. What happened.

Has this anything to do with Bombay Ducks, flat caps or ferrets?

Sorry to point it out, as I am aware of the cross Pennine rivalry, but Lancashire have Manu, Man City, Bolton, Liverpool, Everton, Wigan and Blackburn.
