For me it's got to be:

Grosse Point Blank
Wyatt Earp (Yes, I know it goes on for about a week! but its still good)
The English Patient (don't laugh, it's good - really!)
V (if only for Natalie Portman's little schoolgirl outfit!!)
The Matrix (original only - the other 2 are pump!)
300 (Where are we having dinner tonight? I forget!)
Heartbreak Ridge (only if you switch your brain off first though)
Airplane (original and best spoof movie ever)
Young Frankenstein (werewolf? There wolf - there castle. Classic)
Serendipity (top class chick flick)

The Wild Bunch (A must see movie)
The Duelists (A must see movie)
Desperados
From Dusk 'til Dawn
Eraserhead
Enemy at the Gates
Toy Story
Naked Gun 2.5
North by North West
Psycho
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Full Metal Jacket
12 Angry Men
Saving Private Ryan
Snatch
Kagamusha
Midnight Cowboy
All the President's Men
The Shogun Assassin
Dracula (Gary Oldman version)
American Graffiti
American Beauty
Paths of Glory
City of God (A must see movie but in Portugese with English subtitles)
The Sting
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

+ many others already mentioned.

Somebody earlier dismissed the Pink Panther without Sellers. I have seen the more recent Steve Martin version many times now and although nobody could ever replace Sellers, Steve Martin does an excellent task of creating a new Clouseau character.

I'll try and think later, but one that stands out for me in Guess' list is American Beauty.
I'll never forget the scene at the beginning where he's "whatevering" in the shower and tells us all that "this is going to be the highlight of my day".
Classic.

Too true and I noticed recently that is has got into two of the major film academy's top 100 films of all time. The dumb thing in the UK is that they released it at the cinema the same day as the much hyped Gangs of New York. Even thought the critics gave it a much better rating everybody went to see the Gangs of New York so the best City of God could achieve in the UK was number 2 slot. Unfortunate for the many who missed out on an all time classic.

BTW I have noticed that Gone With The Wind and the Sound of Music have not been mentioned but they have reliably appeared high in all ratings since they were released.

On the topic of the Civil war I must add Glory, the Beguiled and Dances with Wolves.

Speaking of slum movies, has anyone seen a movie called Salaam Bombay about street kids in India? I haven’t seen it for a long time but I remember it being pretty good.

The Wizard of Oz - you really need to watch it when you're not a kid.

I brought the video with me, but I'm so worried that it'll deteriorate so I'm getting it copied onto a CD (a bit sad, I know, but I make no apologies...).

VS

P.S. The Graduate - great cinematography and superb music.

Agree with a lot of these - particularly some of the Nam movies, Trainspotting, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, My Beautiful Launderette (I haven't thought about that one in ages!), Glory, The Green Mile, Midnight Express etc etc.

I don't think The Full Monty has been mentioned yet, so I'll add that and

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Steel Magnolias,
Moulin Rouge, (for the costumes, music & lyrical puns)
The Breakfast Club (an all time favourite of mine!)
Grease (it may be corny, but it was very successful!)

Most of my faves have already been mentioned, but there is one slightly off the wall one which I'd like to recommend, seeing as Dawn mentioned 'Nam movies, and that's Jacobs Ladder, which without having ever been to war or in the armed forces seems to me the closest a film has come to showing how someone might feel having been mentally affected in a conflict; however the film has many levels and several possible explanations of what it is really about - well worth seeing.

Long Good Friday (By Far my Favourite)
I heard on the radio the other day the speach that he gave from the yatch.
If you did not know it was from that film and who was saying it, I find it one of the most patriotic type of speaches about the UK (London in Particular) that I have ever heard.

Others include
Trainspoting
Mona Lisa
Hennessy
Harry's Game
Get Carter (Original)
Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch
Headhunters
Krays
Scum
Nill By Mouth
Once we Were Warriors
A Sense of Freedom (Life of Jimmy Boyle)
Escape to Victory

I always remember the bit in the kitchen when he asked for eggs for his breakfast. Although a very violent scene there was a certain sort of humor attached to it as well.

Saw the follow up film to it and was not bad also.
