International websites suffer bandwidth limitations by CAT who do no have the budget (or inclination) to purchase anymore. Afterall most Thais only look at Thai websites - they don't care what farangs want to look at.

It also seems that the internet in Thailand is still used only for entertainment as opposed to productivity and work, hence the term "len net" instead of "chai internet" (play internet instead of use the internet).
Well spotted Buksida, here is another proof why education is the most important pillar of a country. Since most of the Thais can't read and write English, there is no point visiting other sites rather than Thai, just imagine how much useful information is left out just because of this, or how hindering can this be for an entire country's future.

And yet, "We will not focus too much on technology and materials. We will focus on substance," Education Minister Wijit Srisaarn said last Monday.

Par for the course. You need to call everyday until they get pissed off with you and do something. The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Same happened with me on TT&T but what did happen was that my P2P bandwidth doubled. I guess I got benefit from the bandwidth allocation algorithm. I had no degradation and a slight improvement at night on bursts. (E.g. downloading Google Earth or Skype).

The WI FI itself will be constrained by the bandwidth and quality of the line used by the Hotel to get out. A Hotel can easily justify the highest speed 8GB/s now I think. The bottle neck would be on your WI FI card unless an inordinate number of users all started downloads at the same time.

It is good idea to start with the slow speed you may find you get the same performance at less cost. As for the cabling. It is not worth getting the Landlord involved. If you employ the services of an engineer and pay him privately it won't come to much. I had mine done at my old place for 300 BHT including cable and fittings.

The Landlord could always say NO you can't do unless you pay more rent. It wouldn't be the first time.
