Bank Accounts....

Post by thaikahuna »

I cannot say for other parts of Thailand, however, in Pattaya you can open an account at Bangkok Bank with just your passport. Most of the other banks require all the necessary paperwork. Passport, visa, authorization from immigration, yada, yada, yada. I suggest you check where you live for the requirements. Bank accounts are doable, you just need to have some patience and be able to jump through THEIR hoops.

In Hua Hin you only need passport and address (although no proof of address required).
It's quite easy here, at least at the main popular banks it is.

Hi Pookie, just to agree with what has been said above by Burger and Thaikahuna, you can open an account at Bangkok Bank in Hua Hin just with a passport and an address; they will even help you fill in the forms.

Kasikorn main branch on Phetkasem Road, dead easy.
Passport and I gave the address of my builder.
Took 5 minutes, no charges or nonsense.
Got my ATM card, passbook and Internet banking setup immediately.
Very helpful man and woman who sit at the rear on the right and speak good English.
And, to my surprise, they even paid in some interest while I was away in mid-summer! :thumb:

Had bad experiences with Kasikorn and Bangkok Bank, but can recommend Bank of Ayudhya and Siam Commercial.
Both main branches are also located at Phetkasem Road.
Helpful stuff, just show your passport and a steady address, and you'll get an international ATM-Visa/Master-debit-card, account-book and internet-banking-access immediately.
Low fees !
