Total BS - very minimal difference between the old and new models. However, they are both nice motors.

New smaller engine for Isuzu D Max.
The following also goes some way to explain the new tax rates.

Thought I would follow up

Ended up with a Toyota. Always was comfortable in the FIL's and liked it's power. There is also a dealer close here in Bang Saphan.

Went with the 2.8L engine, diesel, automatic (Mrs M doesn't do gear shifts) and 4WD.

Have had for 4 weeks and very happy.

Friend of the wife's cousin sold them and he loaded us up with extras, first class insurance and made it very painless. He is in Petchaburi if anyone is interested. Dealership was very helpful. I was very satisfied with the price, got what I wanted, and more, for my budgeted amount.

Good for you, seems like you went for the best overall option, those things are pretty bullet-proof by all accounts!

New Pickup which is is the best

Post by SydneyGuy »

Hi

Looking at getting a new pickup soon and was checking out Mazda BT 50 Pro Freestyle Cab, Ford Ranger Open Cab High Rider, and Chevrolet Colorado X Cab.

Not doing a lot of country/farm trips, just want something a little larger for protection, with good visibility, high on the priority list would be servicing costs, fuel consumption, engine noise/harshness, and ride quality (suspension and brakes).

Anyone bought any of these recently that can provide some general feedback?

cheers

I have a Ford Ranger, and I absolutely love it. However, whilst the only time it ever let me down was due to a flat battery, I have had a few problems where after sales service has been well below what I would expect.

The biggest problem with my car, I tried to part exchange it at 2.5 years old. I was offered 40% of original purchase price. My car is low mileage and has received more than its share of TLC, including every service on time and brand new tyres and battery at the time the part exchange offer was made.

I am now resigned to keeping the same motor indefinitely.

If you will stay long term go with your heart, most of the pickups do not differ too much in specs and price range. If, however, you want a good resale value, get a Japanese brand. Best resale value are Toyotas next Nissan and Mazda with Mitsu trailing the pack.

I have had Ford trucks in the states, as well as cars, and always liked them, and had good luck.

A while back I had posted my choice was between a Ford and Toyota (I've also had good luck with Toyotas).

I'm in Bang Saphan with no Ford dealer, but when talking it over with Mrs M she said "There are so many Toyotas here, and dealerships everywhere, doesn't that say something?". Got to say that swayed me, Have had a Toyota truck now for about 3 weeks, and really like it.

Can you imagine being able to buy one of these in Thailand.

It's a Vauxhall Maloo and comes with a 6.2 litre V8 churning out 529 bhp and costs £54,000 in the UK, so it would be over 5 million baht in Thailand if you could get one.

We have them in Oz, dont think Thais would be able to afford the car, let alone the fuel required to keep them running!

It is actually an Australian built Holden, built by HSV. (Holden Special Vehicles). The Maloo has been in the Australian market for some time.

can't believe the amount of totally unnecessary huge pick ups and 4 x 4 in hua hin these days

they are called chelsea tractors in London where there is also a ridiculous amount of these outsize vehicles

no need for them at all, makes driving even more dangerous

big car compensation me thinks

I know what you mean but they're ridiculously reliable and comparatively cheap transport, one of my Thai neighbours has just been showing me his Nissan pick up, 21 years old and 300,000km on two sets of tyres and a couple of batteries!
