Flag shop in HH?
Re: Flag shop in HH?
I've got them on eBay before, shipping is cheap as they dont weigh a lot.

Re: Flag shop in HH?
Foreign (non-Thai) flags for decorational purposes, such as the stage backwall at the former location of Ray´s Place are acceptable. Mucisians of many nationalities jammed there. Flying a Non-Thai flag from your garden flag pole is NOT acceptable and may be considered an insult to Thai people. I don´t know the flag law in Thailand but in most countries flying a foreign flag in your garden is against the law. Only exception are foreign embassies. Shops may fly small foreign flags for decorational purposes.

There are hotels in Bangkok and elsewhere that have numerous poles at the entrance roundabout flying the flags of guests in residence. The Four Wings on Sukhumvit 26 is one that comes to mind, and a few in Pattaya. If they can do it, I don't see why a discrete personal flag in a garden isn't acceptable? Something huge waving over the roof may be a different matter. Pete

There is a distinct difference in how you perceive hotels, conferences, etc. flying international flags to welcome guests of all parts of the world, and flying your home country´s national flag on a foreigners personal property in Thailand. I am talking about a flagpole situation, not a "happy birthday" flag. Hope you see the difference.prcscct wrote:There are hotels in Bangkok and elsewhere that have numerous poles at the entrance roundabout flying the flags of guests in residence. LP, that is a very strong statement. Does it have any foundation? Certainly the Thais in our road are not insulted, in fact they have actually gifted us 3 St Georges Cross flags.Lung Per wrote:Flying a Non-Thai flag from your garden flag pole is NOT acceptable and may be considered an insult to Thai people.
You say that you don't know the Thai law, and Thais where I live encourage it. I don't want to offend my hosts, so am very interested in the origin of your statement.

Re: Flag shop in HH?
To all of the people talking about flying home countries flags, I'm not brazilian nor am I looking to fly this in front of my home, it is for a video advertisement I am doing for my business.
Re: Flag shop in HH?
Dvolante : I mentioned a shop on Chomsin and a few days ago I went to visit my friend who has a business opposite which is how I spotted the flags in the first place, so I took a few photos but not bothered uploading them until now. It's a very old couple who run the place and I picked up a Union Jack to have a look and she wanted to unfold it for me but as I had no intention of buying I declined but it seemed quite thick so probably fairly large. I asked how much and she said 250 Baht. I don't know if they had Brazil though.
Incidentally, hanging outside a business a few doors down is a Swiss flag which is probably the biggest in Hua Hin !

Fine, you have great and broadminded neighbors. Some do not.
In short, through history flags, or standards, were used and still are used to show or prove claim to land. Being ancient practice, it still exists, and that is the basis for flag laws of most nations. As I said, I don´t know the flag laws of Thailand (if any) but this appears to be the reason why some Thais oppose the flying of a foreign flag alone, on a garden flag pole. A claim to Thai land where foreigners cannot own land.
You may wish to pursue this issue further with appropriate Thai authorities.

You did not pay attention when your teacher tought flags of all nations!Pagey wrote: Incidentally, hanging outside a business a few doors down is a Swiss flag which is probably the biggest in Hua Hin !
The very big flag you saw is not Swiss. Take a second guess.
Hint: It´s the flag of one of the Scandinavian countries, and it´s not Sweden, or Norway. Hint No. 2: Finland is not one of the Scandinavian countries. It is, however, one of the Nordic countries.
The flag flies outside the Jailhouse Restaurant. I do wonder whether it´s permissible.

Re: Flag shop in HH?
Lung Per; could it be a Danish flag?
Jeeez!!
Are we insulting Thai people waving our flags and tell me why they don't like it!
For 11 years I had my NORWEGIAN flag waiving in the wind and not one single person have ever complained about it nor told me to hide it!
Just like no one has ever told Jail House to hide their flag.
I do however see the difference between a Swiss and a Danish flag!
I've seen Mongolian flags, Swiss flags, and almost every nation flags in Hua Hin, but never the star spangled banner!
Why?
The town is full of English, Scottish and Scandinavian Flags, not so full of German and Austrian flags, but I guess this is a matter of what language you want to broadcast to everybody who passes by interested to see how you live.
I honestly don't know how many hundred persons who have switched off their engines just to have a talk with me during all the years I've been living here.
To say that the Thai community doesn't like a foreign flag is simply not true.
Where did you get that information from?????????
A lot of Thai people, both men and women, have forwarded me because they've seen the flag, understood that I came from Europe, and approached me with a lot of questions how to get a Schengen Visa.
And that is how I have during my years here have met a stunning lot, of both men and women, who for the moment, lives in Scandinavia. AND Denmark!!

Tell me where I'm out of target practise.
You are the one to told us that the Thai people doesn't like us to waive our flags!

Re: Flag shop in HH?
I know of a charter boat that was told that you could not fly a non Thai flag above the Thai flag and had to change that around so the Thai flag was higher.
