Maybe soi 94 is considered falang territory and therefore a good revenue stream.

Officially, the maximum fine for a DUI here is 2,000 baht - if they are asking for more call your lawyer!

" it is all the police mafia pressure to get funds from you"

... is the most ridiculous sentence I've heard in a while. You were drink driving and got stung mate - end of.

Been here 9 years. Never had a problem. Never been hassled or pressured into handing over money. Have paid small fines when I've obviously messed up on the road. Never known anyone else get 'stitched up' either.

You receive what you give in this country. If you're a twat then the locals will make it a little more difficult for you. If you aint a twat you can just carry on doing your thing. Which category do you fall into Blue? I hear that same sentence you spouted above from aging sexpats supping their last glass of brew... contemplating where it all went wrong.

Absolute garbage. That 'other' site is filled with this kind of stuff.
usual bullshit from you, whoop whoop you have been her 9 years and? I have been here 7 and in the last 6 months know loads in HH that have been done, grow up

Of course - we all know that the local constabulary really abide by what has been published in the Bangkok Post ... ...

Basic Premise: don't give them lip and they'll prolly let you go. Most farangs, judging by whats on here, are so full of themselves that its no surprise that they get roasted at every opportunity ...

when I was stopped there was no way I was over any limit as 2 small bottles of leo would not do that, however the police said if I did not pay , it was a night in the cells, a report written in thai handed to a judge in the morning and a fine of upto 64000bt, I paid the 5k after about an hour and a half of negotiations
What a load of old codswallop!! If you are suspected of being drunk then you are taken to the police station and given a breathyliser. If you are under, then no problem. You will be dismissed and allowed to go on your way. If you are over, even then, if you have someone else to drive you home then that's what happens except you will be required to report to the police station in the morning for them to take action (or not).

If you choose to pay 5K at the roadside when under the limit, then you are not just naive, you are stupid.

Believe me...... I KNOW!
teally? drunk or not as soon as you have paid the agreed amount they will let you drive off. plus you really think the machines are calibrated properly? really, it is up to them what they do. I truley cannot belief the naievity of some of the posters here

Re edited my post before you so rapidly replied: if you give them agro and be a twat you'll get hammered, if you dont you can ride off scott free.

Life lesson 101: don't be a cnut with those in uniform, "facts" are irrelevant in Asia.

I make a point of being polite to the BiB, not sucky just pleasant and polite and I try to use my tiny Thai vocab if I can and I've been thanked for trying. Bottom line: they can ruin your day... and more. Why tempt them?

20k fine for being a drunk driving menace is paltry.

Every alcoholic I've ever had the misfortune of knowing saw the world in black and white terms. A saint? How about responsible adult? Any special labels for those who drove once after two beers, then the next morning couldn't believe they'd been such a moron and never did it again? It's actually pretty easy to not drink and drive. When considering ordering another round or getting behind the wheel, first think about someone you know who was killed by a drunk driver.

Why put yourself in the firing line? Public transport isn't expensive here. If you can afford to drink, you can afford a ride home. Leave the car at home - it's probably more hassle to find somewhere to park anyway.

If you do not trust their equipment then provide your own breathalyser, they are available in the uk at many retail outlets now. Halfords being a case in point.

France have introduced a law where we must have 2 breathalysers in the cab at all times, yeah I know this sounds crazy but its true and other European countries intend to follow suit. Maybe due to the huge amount of drunken polish/Lithuanian drivers on the road.

I am sure you can get friends back in the uk to send some over and cost about a fiver for 2.

To be honest we are very lucky out here with regard to traffic offences, back in the uk drnk driving as we all know means around a thousand pound fine and at least 1 year disqualification from driving.
This coupled with a huge increase in your insurance premiums.

We all know that at tmes they stop you for no reason other than to get their 200 baht but thats a small price to pay to drive in a country without the mass amount of speed cameras and 4 points on your license.

Thai lack of logical thought processes:
I mentioned this story to a Thai friend, making the point that it was illogical to stop a driver for driving while drunk, fine him and then let him drive away. Although he regretted the police action he could not understand my point about the illogicality of it all. So I did a totally unscientific test of a few more educated Thai people and none of them could see the irony of it all.

Well I have been in HH for 11 years if we're having a competition and have been visiting Thailand for more than 40 years! I don't know 'loads in HH that have been done' but I do know many that have been treated fairly. You must mix with some strange company. I have been breathylised and have no reason to doubt the machine. I know several of the MIB, some very senior, and as long as you are abiding by the laws of this country, then you have nothing to worry about.

I think you have a huge chip on your shoulder, Blue05, and I'm sure you will always get what you deserve!

If I've had 2-3 beers I'd much rather trust myself on a bike than put myself in the hands of a tuk tuk or taxi that may have gulped down a bottle or two of sangsom in his slow evening...
