Probably really late, but Mr Torr Steakhouse (on Petchkasem Rd between Satukarn Sq & San Paulo) has a good live band. Folk, rock, a lot of classic tunes - yes, the ubiquitous "Hotel California", of course. The lead guitarist is especially good. Might be worth a visit.

Thanks for the offer - God, that programme is doing the rounds! Now everyone knows I'm too fat/tall for Thai clothes!!
I'm actually back in UK myself early Feb & will have a small shopping spree then, but will certainly bear you in mind for the summer!

There are a few good bars that play good music as mentioned above but I'd swear to god (or Buddha) that there is only one CD in most of the bars in soi binterbart! Every night I hear the same set of songs over and over again.... doom me charlies to sexy naughty bitchy me....
I think most of the bar owners would do well to switch to more western music to attract more customer's and therefore earn more money. The bars are to please the customers not the bar girls working there.

I used to have dreadful trouble with the staff and music years ago when I was running a bar. I'd brought over loads of my cassette tapes (yes it was last century) and generally stayed in charge of the music.
However, as soon as my back was turned, the girls would switch it off and replace it with some inane Thai singsong, normally from Issan as they were homesick. They used to post sentries outside the gate to alert others when I was stumbling back. The music would be changed pretty swiftly.
In the end, I told them they could watch Thai tv and listen to whatever they wanted from 4-6pm. That didn't work either. Eventually, I locked all the offending music away in the house which nearly caused a walk-out. I knew some other bar owners who reprogrammed their tellys so there was no Thai stuff on it.
I can laugh about it now, but at the time it was pretty frustrating. It's not always the bar owner's fault.
The jukeboxes have helped.

I know exactly what you mean, I have several friend bar owners who put on western music only to have it taken off very swiftly by the girls and any arguments made were met by howls of anger...
anyone would think they rented the bar? its a strange situation indeed and one not easily solved.

I beg to differ on that one Lomu. She who must be obeyed has stated categoically that everything is the fault of the bar owner. Disappearing dogs, birds, prawns, staff, customers, Issanese CDs, Cat ****ing Stevens CDs and lack of appreciation of the music currently being played is absolutely the fault of the owner.lomuamart wrote:It's not always the bar owner's fault.
This applies even when the owner is 200 KM away in Bangkok.
BTW. I was told that in your bar that what ever it said on the CD cover it actually contained Van Morrison's greatest hits.
They probably just doubled the playback speed to make it sound like Lao.
