Oct 13th, 1999? Cars floating down poolsuk, small rapids on side sois (hard to walk up them without getting knocked over) kids having a blast, waste deep water even at the night market intersection as you say. Still have the video somewhere. Apparently the flood was one of those once in a lifetime events, exacerbated by record prolonged rainfalls and logging/land clearing in the mountains.

Any Flooding North between HH Cha Am ?
I hear that most of the flooding is to the south of HH, is there anybody who knows, heard of or seen any flooding north of HH and Cha Am, to be exact Palm Hills Resort area?
Thanks for any answer to this.

I posted pictures of the flooding inCountry Hills Estates on the thread Warning - Floods - More to Come

The two estates mentioned by Jimmy Greaves (is one of them called Pasuk?) were worst hit but within a couple of days huge culverts were being constructed and everything is now dry as a bone. Soi 102 was closed at the entrance to those estates for a day. If this had happened up country nothing would have happened for weeks but this being a Royal town, I guess things happen quicker. To be honest I did not see the 1.5 metre high floods that JG mentions and looking at the lie of the land its hard to see how that could have happened. What I can say for sure is that my street in Baan Suk Sabai was a river - the houses were OK though - and the Thai residents were all in it catching fish! Saw some whoppers - Bplah Chon. This was repeated all the way up Soi 102. Westerners are not used to getting wet but I suppose Thais are.

Sezanu, unless someone corrects me, I believe that Laguna is in Soi 102. But maybe have it wrong.sezanu wrote:Is this far from the Laguna area ?
Soi 102 has been one of the more recent developments here. What the planners fail to do, is a survey of the terrain before building. In areas that could normally absorb large quantities water they build estates. The land they build upon is always raised to reduce the risk of house flooding. This means that the water has to find somwhere else to go.
I have three friends who live in Soi 102 and all of them have played the situation down.
I believe that there have been some evacuations, but it is not as bad as it was two years ago.

GF OK
Thanks everyone for keeping me up-to-date with the situation there and especially to Suzanne for posting photos that gave me an idea of the situation. Based on the pictures taken in the morning I now have a good idea what it must of been like at the height of the flood during the night and early morning. No wonder she was in such a state! Now she is fine, leg down to it's normal size after the bite and a few injections to the rear. She is back in Bangkok staying with her sister for a week before hopefully returning to a dry Soi 102.

Not much more to say, really. The soi where I took the pics is still not dry, but isn't much more than a very, very big puddle. There was a truck in there today pumping out the water, from what I was able to make of it.Jaime wrote:The two estates mentioned by Jimmy Greaves (is one of them called Pasuk?) were worst hit but within a couple of days huge culverts were being constructed and everything is now dry as a bone.
The prompt attention to installing the culverts was amazing! Kudos to an expedient Thai response. Well done.

More Water
Apparently it's nice and sunny in Hua Hin today. But Soi 102 is underwater again! Early this morning the water outside rose again quickly, the soi is again like a river with all residents again scared. Some folks are at work, when they return they will see there cars underwater. My gf is back, bought new furniture 2 days ago. If it happens again and we lose all again then we will surely be moving.
HH on the slant!
There was torrential rain this morning (Monday), till around 9. A little more rain off & on after that but in the pm, bright & warm sunshine.
However, I am reliably informed that HH slants downwards from north to south, so if you're buying/renting property in the south, check & double check, as flooding might be the norm!

Leaving Again
Today the water has returned to the bungalow and the soi is a river again.
My gf has really had enough now and it's hard for me to keep her thinking positive. Anyway she is now making her way to a hotel for tonight, thankfully not the hospital again.
Keep you informed.
