one in particular was a gypsy night where you're invited (cajoled to eat the plum), which i might add was quite tasty :D

I have an Australian friend who shall we say, likes his Gin very much. He had to stop the tonic and switch to soda as the tonic apparently has sugar in it and it was ruining his teeth. In turn, the lime was doing something weird to his teeth as well, some kind of citric acid attack on the enamel. The poor bloke's gin and tonic with lime has now evolved into gin and soda with only the lime rind in it. To be noted that this all happened after decades of consumption. :( Pete

Yep, that's the one! I actually had something similar called "Kaoliang" in Taiwan, but it just looked similar, it didn't taste as good and it ceratinly wasn't as strong either. Well, I guess the secret is out, I'm a boozer! (Not alcoholic, alcoholics go to meetings!)

I joined this forum specifically to reply to this thread ... lol

Bombay Saphire is my long time favorite gin, as is black Smirnoff the vodka to beat. However have yet to find black Smirnoff in Thailand.

Yes, it's around, about 800 baht a bottle, larger mall booze shops usually have it and it is a mighty fine vodka, agree about it being the one to beat.

Actually get a good selection of Gin and Vodka at the local Metro store, although have to admit I favour the cheaper brand - Gilbeys with Tonic as a long drink.

Very rare that I would drink vodka neat/on the rocks, but if so then it's got to be Absolute.

I do enjoy Bombay Sapphire, but have to say it's a bit of a waste on me as I have to drink with tonic.

I guess not a spirit in the true sense, but I do actually enjoy Saki which is readily available here also. Cannot stand the local rice wine - Baijiu..... basically rocket fuel!! Tastes cr@p, 50+% by volume, and generally taken as a shot at dinners with the Chinese.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Just having a best vodka I've ever tasted in front of me, only, you wouldn´t believe it´s vodka. This one is from Poland: Soplica Starapolska, it´s not clear but a bit like brandy brownish. It's flavoured with walnut, plum, clove and honey. It´s 40 % in strength but the taste of alcohol doesn´t come out much. Goodness, one could get drunk with this.

I had an Icelandic friend who used to drink "Black Death", the bottle came in a coffin shaped box with a skull and crossbones on the lid. I don`t know where it came from though.

'Salute' is informal Italian, I think, French is 'à votre/ta santé'

Polish vodka is way underrated, I have been to Poland several times (the Polish girls are wonderful!   ) and tried many different type of vodkas there. I even remember the "brownish" one, I believe it was made of potatoes.
