Yup people certainly find the Night Market quickly - and easy to get hooked there as there is plenty of choice. I've done it myself. The same used to happen of course with Satukharn Sq as it was easily stumbled across by tourists.
Strange thing though the 'tourist trail' - they seem to have their comfort zones - happy to wander to the Night Market but uncertain when they reach the railway end of it! Sitting in the Railway is good for observing their behaviour.
Others are comfortable going along to the Pier area and should be prime targets for places like Monsoon. Problem is maybe that the pier walk tends to attract the Sofitel/Hilton folk more perhaps? And they of course have either eaten already in their hotel - or been pulled into Mai Tai or one of the sea front eateries (which are obviously attractive purely because of location.)
Still it sounds as if Monsoon deserves a look, and from flight bookings at the mo hopefully HH will have a good high season after all.

Given the location close to the fish restaurants, it does have the combined mercies of 1) not having (what could politely be described as) the stiff evening breeze that those establishments 'enjoy'
; and 2) consequently the food stays warm
generally having been at least delivered that way, unlike in some of the afore mentioned fish restaurants!

Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....

Monsoon no more?
Re: Does anyone know Monsoon bar/restuarant
B*ll*cks. That's a shame!! That's one of our favourite places gone.
I hope the new place is really good and good luck to them.

Oh. I went past there a couple of weeks back and saw it was closed for renovation. Nothing about it changing hands. A pity, yes, though perhaps not altogether surprising in the current climate.

Went in there last night for first time, been a couple of times previously when it was Monsoon, but more for a drink before as never really got into the food before. But the new Tapas dishes that I had last night were excellent, really tasty. And large dishes too from what I can remember of Tapas, ordered three as I can eat a bit, but struggled to finish them seeing as there was a plate of bread that came with them. Think they ranged from 70-175 Baht, give or take. I'm no food buff, but you could tell the flavours and presentation of the dishes were of real quality.
Apart from different toilets, the decor didn't look any different too me (hope they never spent too much on it
), still that same classy French colonial style that makes it stand out, garden area out the back, open-front etc. Didn't look upstairs. Service was spot on too, and the two girls that I spoke too but spoke better English than me.
Owner was in there (never met him before), and made a point of welcoming everyone that came in, having a chat etc. Said he's got a couple of restaurants in Bangers, and a Spanish chef looks after the Hua Hin one too, or something like that. Mentioned HHAD and he seemed interested and asked several questions. Well worth a try IMHO, I'll definately be going back, food and same relaxed ambience was spot on, and just popped in as riding past last night, don't know anyone there from Adam.

PS: Don't know if it's appropriate for a mod to add 'new tapas' bar in the title or not, but thought against a new thread. The owner did seem genuinely interested in advertising though.

Found it to be quite good - recommend!
Re: Does anyone know Monsoon (New Tapas) bar/restuarant
Is this place still going and still recommended? Going out tonight with a friend for a rare dinner downtown and was considering this as it sounds (and looks) interesting.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

They are doing really well, quality food and Vaughan the owner is a great guy and will take very good care.

Agree with others comments. This is one of my 'must go to' places on my last couple of visits. Nice atmosphere, great Tapas, OK slightly higher prices but the following night you can economize
Enjoying 'Retirement'....So many jobs to do, I don't know how I ever had time to work!
